Geeseman,

Some sections of the field where I mow between the rows are smoother than others so I'm constantly varying my speed as to not get knocked around too much. My tractor is Hydro and keeping it in low range (with the side console lever) I'm often switching between low and high speeds (with the toggle switch) as the conditions change in additional to varying my foot pedal input. On average it seems to take about 4.5-5 hours to mow all ten acres. This is done with one single pass down each row also,...which was my goal in going this route,...saving time.

I considered the route you took with a ZTR but opted to try this instead and am happy for now. I'm not sure how long this combo will work as eventually the trees get larger (the whole point,..right?). I admit I may have to opt for smaller mower or a ZTR eventually but am hoping this mid mount 84" gets to about the 5 year mark at least before the trees get too big.

I assume you're doing some similar mowing between tree rows? Curious to know if you can give me some estimated growth rates and sizes as the planting matures. I just planted my trees (10,000 total) in late April/early May as 1 year old saplings. All hard woods about the dia of a pencil, 12-18" tall.

Thanks,
Paul

How long does it take to get that mowing done? (I'm curious because I opted for a 61" ZTR mower rather than attach a mower on my TC45DA)

I don't have any tree rows and can't offer a suggestion on growth rate. But I can say the ZTR is great for maneuverability and speed. I'm covering about 2-3 acres/hr right now and I would have worried about the weight of my tractor with filled wheels just doing too much damage and going too slow. I have some trees and spend some time weaving my cuts along fencelines.

That's what I was thinking Will, I have never even heard of a 84" MMM, 72" is the biggest I've ever seen.

I have the 914A Service Parts Catalog, and it shows 54", 60", 72" and 84" versions.

I'll agree that it is easier to hookup a RFM (3 point hitch) than a mid-mount, but, the mid-mount takes up less space in my garage as it sits under the tractor instead of behind it. Google New Holland 914A 84" mower for info on it if you're not familiar. Also, I don't have any scalping issues -- I would imagine scalping would be no different than using an 84" RFM.

Thanks. Our RFM has a floating hitch, so the mower rides along the ground nicely.

Can someone tell me how to check the gearbox oil on the 914 mid mount 84 " mower?
Thanks

Park mower on level ground. Gearbox oil should be level with bottom edge of filling hole. Use SAE 80-90W gear lube.

There are fill plugs on both sides of the gearbox, right in the middle of the gearbox, both horizontally and vertically.
