Mounted front Snowblower today, and tried to use but mid PTO will not engage, the lever for the mid/rear/or both will not move, so I disconected it and the lever that goes into the transmission will turn without any resistance like it is not conected to anything inside. Any ideas I just bought this tractor and have ordered a John Deere manual but will not see that for 2 weeks. Thanks

Don't worry yet. Sometimes the PTO selector doesn't like to move, but it will shift if you move the tractor forward or back a little bit.

Where is the selection lever positioned now? Does the selected shaft turn when the yellow PTO lever on the dash is engaged?

When I first bought my 855, the PTO selector didn't want to move. I was sure it was defective, but it worked great once I moved the tractor forward a bit. It's the same deal shifting into and out of FWMD and between low and high range on the hydrostat. It takes a little juggling and timing and tractor movement sometimes to get the levers to move. You get used to it. Good luck. Let us know.

I have to agree with Okie on this. Sometimes the only way to get the MFWD to engage/disengage is to give it a sharp knock with the heel of my hand while moving at a SLOW idle. Are you lifting the lever out of the detent notches when you move it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ?

I've had the same problem. I just fiddled around a bit and was able to work it loose. I don't have any mid mount attachments but I do shift to neutral quite often to allow me to spin the rear PTO for sliding on some attachment's PTO shafts. Shifting from MFWD to 2 WD is sometimes a problem but I either roll a little forward, backward, or use the bucket to lift the front end off the ground a smidge and then change the selector. Don't worry these are not big issues - more of a matter of getting used to your machine.

Oh by the way for safety sake I never fool around with the rear PTO shaft when the tractor is running. Seems obvious I know but never hurts to mention. Have fun /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is what I have found. Something inside the transmission is not connected to the lever that would change the pto selection, so I removed the indicator light activator switch that is just above the lever and moved the shift rod so that both mid and rear pto are engaged. To get inside the transmission you have to remove it from the tractor looks like a big job. I will do that later. Thanks for the replys
