I have a king kutter middle buster. I feel it doesn't go deep enough. I haver purchased (2) draw bars. I want to cut shank of the middle buster in half and use the holes on the draw bars with bolts to lengthen the shank. I will need to drill (4) holes (2) on the upper half of the middle buster and (2) on the lower. I use the middle buster to rip rows in the vineyard. It works well it just need to be deeper. I feel the draw bars are sturdy enough given they measure 3/4"x3" with 3/4" holes for the bolts to go through. Thoughts?

I think I would have just bought a one bottom plow. But that is because I am dangerous with tools in my hands... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Now, the drawbars will also be in the dirt, so you are making the shank an inch or more fatter, right? Not all the way to the bottom, but still more draft....

Then going deeper, there will be much more twisting stress on the middlebuster frame.

Added together, you will be making a lot more 'pull' on the middle buster.

I'd be concerned about the frame of the middle buster more so than the drawbars.

I didn't think about the additional thickness of the 'shank'. The middlebuster was so inexpensive that I still want to try this. If all else fails I will cut the shank off completely and have someone weld a 2" reciever to the frame and use it for moving trailers and buy and subsoiler that does go deeper and put the middle buster spade on it. Thanks for the thoughts

Sounds good to me. The added thichness shouldn't be too much of a problem. Instead of drilling and bolting (and weakening), weld it up. Something about welding 3/4in material, crank up the current and go.

The first reason I don't weld it is because I don't have a welder. The second is I want to be able to adjustable the depth by using different holes on the drawbars.
