Midwest box blades.

Well, I did break a tip this past weekend. Got caught on stump and stuck right in. Any word from anyone out there on this? The scarifier is fine--just the replaceable tip came off.

Interesting... must have been a system crash yesterday... now I'll have to reenter my response...

Sorry for the delay in responding.... but my eldest daughter is getting married in a week, so I have not had any seat time lately... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I did receive the replacement tips and have talked to Ted Corriher about the best way to install them. Seems the tips are supposed to be pressed on, with the small holes in the tip brackets mating with knobbies on the shanks. Ted said to use a torch to heat up the existing tips to expand them and knock them off. Then heat the new ones and hammer them into place in the knobbies.

Seems that the shanks on mine do not have the knobbies and the existing tips are tack welded to the shanks. The remnents of the tack are present on the front of the shank. I think I will have the new ones solidly welded in place. Big rocks are a major crop here in New England.

I will say that I am exceedingly pleased with the personal customer service from the entire Corriher Implement staff. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Is there any possibility the reason these caps are either pressed on or tack welded on instead of solidly welded in place is to act as a 'weak link' situation much like using a shear pin on a rotary cutter? Maybe the caps are supposed to give way before you damage a shank or worse when you hit one of those New England rocks. I don't know. It's just something I wondered. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

just an update.... on the loosing teeth problem...

I finally got around to taking the scarifiers off to the welder. He took off the stock teeth (that were left /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) and attached the new ones. He told me that the scarifiers are hardened steel and the new teeth are not hardened. After some discussion with him, I decided to weld the new teeth on. This has made a world of difference in working our wonderful New England soil. I'm now digging up more rocks and not losing any teeth.

Thanks! Corriher for the great customer service!
