I just purchased a new Lincoln 180-C mig welder, After spending such a large chunk of money, I broke down and am building a cart for it. My question is what are you guys using to hold your mig gun when you put it down? I can see it hitting the floor, or being stepped on and damaged...so I need to find some way of holding it...I know they make one for this, but I figure some of you out there have invented something better and cheaper....Please let us all know. Pictures would be great if possible!:)

On my welding table, i welded on some ubolts. I just put the tip of the gun in it and the weight of the whip wedges it in there. On my cart, i just have some J hooks bent out of 3/8 rod and loop the welding cables over it.

Attached is a picture of my welding cart, if you look carefully you can see the hooks. The cart has my torches, stick and mig welders all in one. Probably one of the most convenient and useful things i built. Its not the best pic, but Its the only pic i have on my computer

Here's mine (the 4" tube welded at an angle on the L/H side of cart) and a few other picts.
I went for a few years without any kind of mig holder so if ya just lay it down and not just pitch it like a used...nevermind...the gun will be just fine.

just cut a 3" peice of 1 1/2"diam. pipe and weld it on a slight angle where ever you prefer to hang you gun.

Here's a pic of my MIG cart... as you can see, I made it from a hand truck... Works great, and easy to move on my less than perfect shop floor. I did like some of the others on here, and just welded on a piece of 1 1/2" pipe for a gun holder... I've also got a magnetic base gun holder that I can put where I need it as well... but 98% of the time I'd say I use the gun holder on the cart. In this pic, you can see that the gun is in the holder.

In case you're wondering, the 2 tanks are C-25 (75% argon/25% CO2) on the left side of the pic, and CO2 on the right.
