Super - thanks for that find. I'm not seeing it anywhere in the paperwork that came with this machine, but it makes sense.

The manual does say "Do not use welder to thaw pipes" but I'm sure that's just because PVC isn't a good conductor.

Thanks everyone!

I think this is the answer

These are the answer. I once saw 20# of wire coiled up on the floor while a welder was on break. Ran out 20# before it was notices running on it's own when the gun was laid down wrong.

UPDATE --

Finally got garage access and tested the machine yesterday.

Continuous wire feed works fine when welding.

Thanks!

Miller Multimatic200: Whenever I change spools, or re-feed the cable..... if it detects no voltage after a few seconds, it squirts wire out FAST. It somehow knows you need to fill the cable housing. The display says something like "300 ft/min" I don't know how far it goes.

If the gun was resting on the trigger I don't know if it will decide to fast feed, but it fast-feeds every time I need to re-feed the cable.

Mine will feed intermittently if it isn't welding, it has a "wire check" setting for restringing a new roll.
