JD 2025R
I'm going to look at a JD 2025R in a few minutes. Was going to look at a used one but they are giving a pretty good discount for a new one. End loader and 62" auto connect mower deck. I called a Kubota dealer on a used 30hp B model that didn't have an end loader but did have a 60" mowing deck. Never called me back. Guess they are to busy. Kind of a turn off when you are a serious buyer and they don't follow through. The JD dealer is giving me $7200 for my BX on a trade in which is a little more than I expected. We will see, but I'd say the auto connect deck is kind of a big selling point for me.

Before buying my L6060, I tried to shop the equivalent JD model (don't remember the # (4066R???)). There were features available on it, e.g., EPTO, not available on the 6060.

After visiting the closest JD dealership and learning that the sales people were both arrogant and unhelpful, I gave up and bought the 6060.

Sometimes you just gotta wonder.

Done deal, JD2025R, 60" auto connect deck, end loader, rim guard in the rear tires, mulch kit for the deck, and minus one BX2350. Probably get it by the end of next week. Not sure of the exact price because he wasn't sure exactly how much the rimguard would be but it will be about 12.6k plus the BX for trade.

A couple of things impressed me about the JD over my BX. The end loader come off easy on my BX but even easier on the JD. I was also shocked at how tight it turns. Its quite a bit bigger than my BX but it feels like it turns tighter.

Well, you put a whole hour and 22 minutes into that "Might"....

Got any pictures?

I pretty much had my mind made up before I even sat on it. It would have taken something I didn't like to not buy it. No pics, I drove it around a little bit and operated the controls. Two dislikes, you have to hit a switch to back up while mowing, a safety thing, and you have to put the thing in neutral to get off of it while its running, another safety thing. Not a big deal cause I had a Deere riding mower years ago that I had to lift up on a knob to back up while mowing, I got used to it pretty quick. Now I just have to figure out how to make sure the ROPS is down before pulling it in my garage.

Not being negative about your purchase, I like those too, but just wanted to remind you to check on that hidden grease zerk on the driveshaft if they are still using that. I can't remember which one it was....but it was not included in the manual as one you had to grease and many were failing. You have to remove the floor board or cut an access hole to service it. There were many threads on this issue.
Also about the bending fuel tank brackets that lead to the filler neck rubbing the hole in the hood.

Just check up on these because we'd hate to see you have an issue. Better to address it right from the start. They could have rectified these issues by now?

I'm pretty sure people have figured out how to disable that mow in reverse safety thing. Enjoy your new tractor!

The fuel tank is at the back now. The difficult grease seek on the driveshaft is still an issue and hard to get at. I think it is in the manual now.

Oh ya, I forgot they changed the tank location. I never really looked at the latest version of the 2025R, but maybe some of the old fixes will work for you to make an access hole to get at that fitting. I have seen some good solutions in the old threads. I came really close to buying the older version of your tractor, but then I discovered my Kubota dealer treated me really good.

Are you going to post pics in the JD section?

I think from reading threads in the JD section they made an access door in the tractor to get to the u joint. I think it is for the drive shaft that connects the engine to the HST. I will probably post a few pics here to. I would like to get a couple side by side with the BX.

That would be good. Looking forward to seeing pics. Size comparison pics are always good for people on the fence about what size tractor to buy.

I sure understand about the convenience of the mower hook-up. Sadly, Kubota's answer to that feature is a joke. For me though, a belly mower is a distant option to a ZTR for mowing. The JD backup feature will be handy for hooking up implements.

Still, I don't think I'd get used the JD prices and quality. JD's are built to sell, and they do a good job at that. Always have. Maybe I'm just a Kubota guy at heart, but when it comes time to lay out the bucks, like you, I'll consider all things that are important to me at the time.

Good customer, or potential customer, service is premium at any and all the time. Perhaps that why me, a Ford guy, is driving a Chevrolet!

In the very near future, I'm upgrading to a much larger machine.

Unfortunately, I don't see the quality in JD. As of right now, Kubota still makes a much more robust product line, with features I'm already accustomed to.

That might change down the line, but as of now, none of JD's products impress me or stand out.

Good luck with your purchase.

As a side note: When I was younger working as a farm hand, I always thought Kubota and Case were a laughing stock, and John Deere was king of the crop. So things do change.

I would own either brand personally. My JD dealer was great to work with (sales process). He fought hard to earn business. Kubota was equally excellent. I am very lucky! JD is still king of the farm around the foothills in CO, but Kubota does have quite a nice foothold.

Kubota is great for the homesteader or small cattle/dairy operation. They just don't have the products for the big grain guys and larger operations in general. 171 HP sounds huge to most of us puttering around on 20-60 hp machines, but the big boys in my area me are running around with 20K+ LB machines, Fendt Varios, Deere 8000s, Case Magnums, JCB Fastracs, etc. They need that weight to work.

Congrats on the JD. They are nice machines. My JD X748 has one of those hard grease zerks. When I got it the fitting was installed so a grease gun could not go onto it. I had to get in there with a wrench and tighten it a bit more to get it. It's not so bad now that I am used to it. The hardest part is turning the shaft so it is accessible.

I did not sit down and hammer out a price on a kubota. A 25 hp B model would be equivalent but my impression is it would have been at least 2k more. JD has a lot of incentives now.

Quality of JD? I live in a area that has some of the best farm ground in the world. To say JD has a presence would be an understatement. But like someone else said a lot of it is in the big stuff. All the big name makers have a presence. Some of the lesser known brands just do not maintain a presence. I will let time tell on the quality of what I bought. Lets just say I have high expectations.

We all have our favorites, but has been said before, most of these tractors are good enough to the point that your dealer relationship is the most important thing to purchase.

Where I live my dealer started out as a John Deere dealer. The building is even green. But there is a sea of orange inside and out now.

They tend to push Kubota more in the 70 horsepower and under class and John Deere above that.

You mean you don't favor a plastic hood and smaller front axle? ;)
