I would personally NOT use a tarp. The tarp will trap and encourage moisture and lead to premature rusting. Leave it open to the air to dry out and breath, or hang a tarp over it, but don't put the tarp right on it.

I agree with not tarping it tightly, it will encourage rust and varmits to make new home. Truthfully, be more concerned with the seat getting the elements and just cover the seat. I leave mine out year round under my deck, it gets wet, but for the most part it is out of the real harsh weather.
