Mahindra 2555L
I have a brand new Mahindra 2555L with only 14 hours. Yesterday after running a short time at low speeds both the MIL and the glow plug light came on. I turned the machine off and restarted multiple times but did not let run long fearing damage, but the lights stayed on. Any suggestions on what the cause is, if it requires service, and how to clear the codes? Will is hurt the motor to run with these codes on?

I have a 2540, and I note that the glow plug light will be on sometimes when it's running, perhaps a part of the emission control system. It by itself is not a "code". The MIL indicates something, of course, and with only 14 hours I'd get in touch with the dealer before running it any more (assuming you've checked all of the things that you can check.

Not sure on that model but other Mahindras can be plugged into with an OBD2 scanner- may provide some insight on the MIL.

The 2500 series don't like to be ran at idle for too long - 1500 RPM's or higher, especially the 2555. The EGR is gummed up and needs to be cleaned - it's still under warranty have them come out and clean it. After a few starting cycles with a few minutes rest period your MIL should reset.

Eventually, an EGR relocation kit is coming out for the 2555. From what I understand today the dealer has to apply for one and it take a couple of weeks to come in if it is approved. Right now it is for areas where the 2555 is running in high altitudes OR if you have a requirement running at low RPMs for an extended period. The one customer I heard of in my area had this requirement (low RPMs for an extended period, setting fence posts) and it was approved - and eliminated his EGR issue.

... it's still under warranty have them come out and clean it. ...
Unfortunately, that's not part of the warranty that I can see. You have to get the tractor to them. However, cleaning the EGR valve cannot be a big deal. BTW, I have a 2540, which is the non-turbo item. It's spent 50 of its first 60 hours below 1,500 rpm with no issues.

With the tractor being that new, they will send out a tech. Especially when he throws the WTF flag with the MIL coming on with a new tractor - that is what I did and I had the sales manager and technician out on my property to clean the EGR and upgrade the ECM while it was snowing out.

EGR gumming up caused by low load, low rpm, and low temperature. It's most common on the 2555 and 2565 HST's because most people who buy them can get the ground speed they need without much throttle and they never LOAD the engine anywhere near full HP output. This was never an issue before emissions regulations and EGR systems, the bottom line is no Tier 4 emissions compliant diesel engine between 25hp and 750hp will be happy if they don't regularly see loads above 40%. Your 2540 is naturally aspirated yes, but you are probably using enough of it's hp to keep the exhaust warm and prevent problems.

The EGR on the 2555 can be cleaned easily with brake clean, after it is cleaned....run it like you stole it...they are designed to run at PTO rpm and unless under load will not burn much more fuel than idle. You are doing much more harm by running these engines under 1500 than you are at redline.

I really do enjoy my 2555. got it about 2+ months ago. typically dont keep it at idle for more than a couple of minutes when hooking up implement. i shut it off when hooking up pto. about 40 hours on it now. no complaints so far. few things you may want to do that i did to mine. paint pen to draw line across every nut/bolt that has any kind of structural importance ( loader/hoe/frame bolts, rim bolts, etc.) so you see at a glance if they loosen. dieeltrcic grease every eletrcical connection i could find. zip tied those that did not have a latch so they wouldn't slip apart. nice to do before it gets too dirty. also, TSC sells the perfect size square clamp to fit around rollbar ... either 2inch wide or 4 inch. used them to clamp on some pieces of pvc to hold chainsaw and fire extinguisher. VERY IMPORTANT: i put key chain on hydraulic ports on rear around the rubber port plugs as a reminder to put the lever in nuetral when i take the backhoe off.

i think you will have a blast with it. good luck.
