What do you use for a load?

I built a load bank using clothes dryer elements and a condenser fan.

I have an old Electric furnace that I can mix and match elements to get almost any load. but it's awkward and ugly. Great for initial tests. (Seems my Onan, rated at 12 KW won't quite do that!) But not very conveniant for periodic tests.

One Big Generator guy in South Western Ontario bought a surplus load bank from the Federal government. It was a Van Body full of toasters! I can just see the Gov employee with his Gov credit card walking into Walmart, asking for a hundred toasters.! That would be about 150 KW in load.

My friend picked up his mep-804b 15kw after we confirmed his AC was rated for 208. He got a 2009 unit with 76 hours on it no trailer, with aux fuel hose. $7000.00 complete service done it with load test

Makes you wonder what the vendor bought them for.

Gov planet just sold three on the 22nd they went between $6500 and $7050.00 before commission and transportation, they all had trailers and were running and showing voltage from 46 hours to like 700 hrs. Had to be jump started dead or missing batteries, showed no leaks or blow bye.

I would NEVER pay that much for a used generator no matter what the hour meter reads. I have read more horror stories on low hour surplus generators than ones with some time on the clock

Mine had 2600 hours on it and has run flawlessly after some simple maintenance. Bought it for $1185 after fees. Drove up to Atlanta to pick it up. I am all in for 2 grand including the load bank and all the stuff to connect to the house

You can buy brand new Perkins diesel generators for the prices the surplus sets are selling for these days

Perkins Diesel Generators* Made in USA with pride.

I'm thinking someone is making some good money. I mean, don't get me wrong. They are still light years better than the consumer junk (screamers) out there.

Just happened to get another video show up on Toutube/Apple TV about EMP threat. It that happens, you will wish you had bought one of those MEPPS at any price!

That link was interesting a Kubota quiet series seems the closest match to the mep series and similar sized unit is in the $13~14k price. So I guess for 1/2 the price you take a risk. I'm on the low end mep-802a for $2500 and Kubota is $8000.00.

I think an Onan 7.5 Quiet with 3 cylinder Kubota is going for around 10K CDN. They are inverter style. I like the old 7.5. Brushed Alternator, fan and radiator out front, conventional style.
