i have a battery charging problem with my bobcat 225 welder. everything else works fine but the battery don't charge. thought i would ask you gys before i get into it. might save some time. thanks in advance for the help.

I'm going to geuss you have the onan engine in that, well, does'nt matter, the kohler is pretty much the same as far as the charging system. The regulator is located on the engine, there are 3 wires/terminals coming off of it. The two outer terminals are ac. If you measure ac volts with a meter (terminal to terminal) should be between 28 and 40 volts. The center terminal is dc "charging voltage" and should be at least 1 to 2.5 volts higher than battery voltage. If that checks out, check continuity from the center terminal to the positive lead to the battery. Do'nt forget the obvious such as the fuse, battery condition as well as battery connections.

well thanks again this forum is great. it was just like you said kubmech. the voltage regulator had no dc output. got a new one on order. has to be ordered direct from onan and should be here in about a week. so for now i'll just keep my trickle charger on the welder at night. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
