I've got a 225 Bobcat welder, Onan 2 cylinder engine, that has started surging at full throttle, won't stay running at idle, and occasionally backfires when restarting. Anyone have an idea what's going on?

If yours is equipped with a vacuum operated fuel pump, like mine was with somewhat similar issues, changing to a small volume electric pump might solve the issue.

If old enough it drank MTBE gas pretty good chance perforated diaphram in fuel pump. Replace before gas takes out crank bearings or wish you did.

Best to just replace fuel pump wid low pressure electric.

I agree, sounds like running lean so either carburetor or fuel pump if equipped

I have a Lincoln Ranger 8 that had the same issue. I switched it to Propane. No more issues with gas.
