Hey, I just bought a Miller 125 C plasma cutter, the 230 V version. I recently bought a Miller syncrowave 180sd tig welder so I have the 230V service in my garage.

The Cutter came with a cord without a plug. So I went down to Home Depot to get the right plug. Now I need to fuiger out what color wires go on what poles of the plug.

The instructions to the plug are using Black White and red wires but the welder has a Blue, Brown, and a Green/Yellow wires.

Dose anyone know which wires go on which poles?
The electrician who put in the line put on the last plug and those wires are colored differently.

I posted a picture of the plug i'm using.

It's wierd that the instructions to the plug use black white and red. This plug (and the plug for all 230v welders that use this plug) is set up for two hots and a ground. No neutral.

Conventional electrical color coding uses black and red for hots, white for neutral and green for ground. That's what's wierd, why do your instructions use a white for this type plug?

Nevertheless, your instructions will be using black and red for hots. Your ground will go to the remaining pole. If you have three wires from your plasma cutter, blue and brown are hots, green/yellow is your ground.

Hope this helps. Anybody disagrees, please step up.

You probably should be asking on the Miller Motorsports welding board . But, you bought the WRONG plug.

As you already know, according the the 125C manual (download available on the Miller website), the Spectrum 125C was originally supplied with no plug since it is a dual voltage system (120/230). The standard 230v plug should be a NEMA Type 6-50P and the receptacle a NEMA Type 6-50R.

Your picture appears to be a dryer or a stove plug. I would guess that the center pin is neutral while the outer ones are the hot legs. The colors will depend on what colors your electrician used.

As a matter of point, I would change that plug to the NEMA 6-50P along with the correct receptacle for this application.

If that plug is rated for the amperage the cutter needs, then it will work.

As for wiring, the green w/yellow strip will be ground and the other two hot. As long as you get the ground right, the other two are interchangable. A simple meter check of the receptacle will show the two hot legs as 220V.
