Millermatic 211 vs Hobart 210MVP

I have the Hobart Ironman 230, it will weld 1\2" steel in one pass, excellent machine. 95% of all of my welding needs are satisfied with the MIG process, the other 5% is an occasional aluminum welding job (all home shop stuff), I use my Miller Diversion 180 TIG for that. Don't buy too small of a MIG machine.

For my general use I can not see needing all the fancy stuff... The transformer based 210MPV is about all one needs for average around the yard MIG welding, if you learn to work within the voltage steps and wire feeds you can do anything that a up scale infinitely adjustable machine can do at a lot less dollars .... I bought Hobart Handler 140 because I was not sure if I was going to weld much and now kicking myself for not getting the 210MPV....

Oh yeah, infinitely adjustable would be nice, but if going that route step up to Miller 215 for some more additional features and digital displays....

Bottom line is if you can't or don't know how to weld, more expensive machine is not going to make you into a welder....

Rob I don稚 recall if you mentioned having an auto dark helmet or not. I sure wish I had one when I started welding long ago.

I don't. And I think that's a big problem. I will have one soon.

Highly recommend and depending on how good is your reading vision, you should invest in an inexpensive cheater lens that fits inside your hood. Did wonders for me and seeing the puddle.

I think the Hobart 210 welder would be a good learning machine. It is not complicated with lots of dials or screens to set. If you upgrade I see no reason to sell the Hobart 210 welder. It will still have a place in your welding when you add a bigger machine. I think by the time you want to upgrade you will understand this.

Yes cheater lenses inside helmet ... I have a 2 diopter in mine and sometimes wear my reading cheater also....Also a lot of external ambient light on area to weld helps... Put a headlamp on welding helmet to light your path...
