Pictures of trench dug with the mini hoe. The trench at this point is 1/3 done and is about 40 ft long and 36" deep. I have about 3-1/2 hours in the project so far. I think time per foot will go down as I get more seat time with the machine. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am gaining repect for the mini hoe. I pulled this out from about 1 ft down caused the rear wheels to lift for a few seconds. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Great job, is this for a water line?
Your right about seat time making you better. Keep the pictures coming.

I'm impressed. What type of mini-hoe is it and what is it attached to?

Becoming more jealous by the day. I had the perfect job for a PT and a mini-hoe a couple of days ago when I dug (by hand) a 30 foot trench about two feet deep. I would think your digging time will go down when you have more experience using the PT for this. Seems to me that the most difficult thing to get over is articulating the machine in order to position the hoe. I don't think it took me more than an hour to dig my trench by hand (and this includes clay) but then the depth is a critical factor. The deeper you go the more difficult it becomes and this is especially so when you have a narrow trench.

Nice work!

Wow...I'm impressed too. That is a big rock (I'd almost call it a boulder!) Any guess on how much it weighs? I doubt I could pick that guy up with the front-hoe I just made...I think it would be too heavy to not tip the tractor forward...

I would estimate about 300 lb. My mini hoe project is on hold. We received several inches of rain which filled and undermined the trench and I had to backfill the excavation. Will start again soon but this time I will do it in sections digging then placing the utilities, back filling the same day and leaving a small trench area open.
