minimum size tank for off road fuel

What is the minimum size tank your fuel oil provider will allow? I am going to find out tomorrow what I can do. At $4.60 a gal for diesel, I am starting to squirm a little. I was thinking of gettin a 30 gal drum or 2 or a fuel caddy. I don't use fuel oil to heat so I can't draw from an existing tank. Maybe I could put the drums in the pickup if I have to, and take them into town to be filled.

I don't have an exact answer, as i am sure it varies , even around here, as to how far out you live. I also don't have fuel delivered. I keep a 55 gallon drum at home for my offroad. I still use it about 5 gallons at a time, but like to keep a store handy for the generator. To keep it fresh, I draw from it to fill the tractor as needed. I drive by the place I buy my offroad every day going to work, so I still purchase and transport the fuel in a 5 gallon gerry can. That fuel goes into the drum so I am not lifting it up on top of the tractor anymore. The tractor I fuel using a hand crank pump at the drum.

I watch the Hudson Bay fuel futures market & buy annual usage at the market low point $2.81 this year. Price usually bottoms out late Jan or early Feb each year.

I called my local distributor last week about fuel delivery. Minimum delivery was 120 gallons. Off road was $3.857 / gallon. A new 275 gallon tank was $375 - he made no mention of hoses or pump so I'm sure it wasn't included. I'm going to stick with fuel cans for now.

I agree with this statement.This is when I buy my diesel and gas fuel for the year.I also buy my propane in first two weeks of August,my friends wife works at the local propane dealer and told me this is the cheapest time to buy propane.coobie

I would not buy a fuel caddy-To much money for to few benefits.
You can set up a nice drum and pump system that's more benefical and cost less than a $400 30 gallon caddy.

1*Why not have the fuel delivered instead of going after it.
I have 2 suppliers that will top off my 30 gallon tank whenever they're in my area,
2*Forget the tank for the moment; It's not the problem but the solution is in how you plumb the pump.
3*It's an even bigger pain to unload it off of a truck or trailer.
4*But then you'd have to cart the elect pump fuel filter and hose with the tank when you go to get fuel.
This is why I didn't mount my pump on the tank.
5*Plumb this pump up the right way and it resolves all your issues.
I would not mount the pump to that valve because that attaches the pump to the tank.

The fuel supplier is not the place to get that stuff.
You can build your own system better your self.

1*150 gallon for delivery/25 gallon to top off .
Here is my drum / pump set up.

The white 30 gallon drum is my storage drum.
The blue 55 gallon drum is for going and getting fuel for the white drum.
Here is how I unload the blue drum of fuel off my truck.

Siphon hose from pump placed in drum.

Fuel nozzle placed in white storage drum.

Pumping the fuel out of the blue drum into the white fuel storage drum.
After the white drum is filled I simply set the light weight easy to handle empty blue drum off the truck and all done.

2*Better yet get a 30 and a 55 gallon drum.The 30 to store fuel and the 55 to haul fuel in.
3*Get these drums and you only need to take the 55 gallon one to town.
I just showed you how to haul and unload fuel for your set up fuel system.

why the 55 gal drum to buy the fuel and not another 30 gal?
