Miniture Livestock? Mini-Cow help needed!?!

Hi GareyD, I have seen Garey’s cows and I must say they are a nice friendly bunch. When the wife and I stopped by for a visit I think his cows were disappointed that we didn’t come on in the field to play for a while. I know one of them would have stayed at the gate as long as someone was willing to scratch its head. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

My grandparents raise mini-horses and they just love them. They have trained them to do all kinds of things, shake hands, smile, bow, pull a cart, count, and potty trained so they can stay in the house. They are addictive as my grandparents started out with 3 and now they average 90-100. Here is a link to thier site so you can see thier size and different colors.

Yep, we thought Oreos too....

Maybe that's why we named our's "Nabisco", "Oreo", "Cookie" and "Double Stuff".....

Bob,
Over the last 10 years or so the city has moved closer and closer to us. As a result we have a lot of friends that want to get a horse for thier kid. We tell them that they can come over and ride ours for an afternoon and see if they like it. If they do then we let them do everything......groom on them, saddle, ride, wash, clean up....everything.

I guess my point here is that you might ask a local trainer if they would swap out cleaning stalls etc for some lessons. If that goes well then you might look into leasing a horse as Richard suggests.

Personally I think its the best thing for kids but it has to fit into your lifestyle.

Mark, we made a deal with my daughter, stick with 4-H for 3 years and she can have the horse. She's had riding lessons, gone on trail rides, etc, but I seriously doubt she expects the amount of work that I foresee with maintaining a horse.

And the wife is now leaning against having a cow or two. I'd still like one, if for no other reason than RIB-EYE steaks.
