But, but, but..... it's production in the US. We still produce goods and services. It's just not the same goods and services that were produced in the past. Things change.

Quick show of hands...

Who here wants to go work on an assembly line in a factory doing piece work?

Who wants to go and work in the furnace at a steel mill?

For that matter, I don't recall anyone on TBN ever mentioning that that is what they do for a living. Maybe they did and lost their job, but that hasn't been mentioned. Maybe they did and advanced off the line. But not many people WANT to work on an assembly line or in a hot steel mill when they can work some other job that's more comfortable.

I've seen some folks here that did maintenance at factories, or drove trucks to and from factories, but I see not one person on here ever saying that they sure would like to get a job working the line at a factory.

Everyone wants to complain about how things were, but in reality, not many of them actually want that job should it open up.
I stacked bentonite in rail cars to feed my family when I was young and appreciated the job. Your city boy analogy sucks because there are millions who still do manual labor.

But in your profile you show yourself as living in the "corrupt rust belt". Just because the economy isn't good where you live doesn't mean it's that way everywhere. Those union jobs that paid "great money and benefits" are mostly gone because the workers priced themselves right out of a job. It's a global economy now, and if you can't compete you lose.

Sad but true. And those jobs aren't coming back. Long gone are the days when you could just show up at a factory and they'd teach you what you needed OJT. Some trades you can still learn on the job, but you have to be willing to do the grunt work and work your way up. Other trades like plumbing or electrician generally require some schooling to get in the door.
Actually here in SW MI we have quite a few of those no brainer factory jobs that hire anyone off the streets.

When I first started working there it was a midlife crises job where you don't have to think and they hired folks with a background in the field. Co was bought out and we'll let's just say some of us old timers there make decent money. Otherwise I'd be gone, gotta get a translator to talk to anyone now.

I worked on an assembly line after high school for half a year until I got a different manufacturing job as a laborer doing really s**tty work. Worked 12hrs/7days week for 6 months straight as recently as 10 years ago. I was raised under a different work ethic and with the idea that the world doesn't owe me anything. I never quit even the worst job unless I had another to go to the following Monday.

There were no participation trophies where I grew up. You were expected to earn your way.

There are more of us deplorable laborers that built and are building this country than the all city mouth breathers combined.

Why this us vs them stuff? This is a big country with cities, suburbs and rural communities. And many advocations and professions, all of which are necessary for our society. I have always lived and worked in rural or small town communities, but I recognize the importance of all jobs and services from laborers to professional careers across our country.

Good for you. Save me your "Ive been there". Have you ever dug a ditch with a shovel with your hands to put bread on the table? Stop before you embarrass yourself.

I have thinned trees and piled brush, dug fire lines and fought fires and slept in the dirt for two weeks and hiked out of the wilderness and done house framing. And I have worked in suit and ties in Washington DC. All of which to make ends meet. Nobody’s special. We all make a living and if we are “mature” we have a rich and diverse career history of many experiences. Nothing embarrassing about any of those jobs.

Try some Metamucil. It might improve your demeanor.
