I am looking at building a 24'x34'x14' garage / barn.
Looked at the miracle truss system.
It looks like a great way to go.
Anyone have any experiance using this system.
I am planning on building the structure on concrete piers and pouring the floor later.

Here's my story with Miracle Steel...

I have a 30x48x8 Miracle Steel building that I installed about 6 years ago...I love it...easy to install (my wife and I did mine in one week...weekend and evenings)...still as good as the day it was finished...don't forget to figure in the lumber it will require to finish...about $2,000 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On the downside...I recently decided to build a 30x50x12 (filled the other building so full I can't walk in it) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ...called Miracle Steel to check prices...yikes...$13,000 for the steel kit, $2,000 +/- for the lumber, $3,000 +/- for the insulation...still have to add the slab, plumbing, wiring, do the installation.... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif this building will cost me around $25,000 +/-.

Now when I bought the first building...I was told all owners are also dealers...the second building will be at a reduced price...recommendations recieve a kickback, etc...none of this has ever happened.

The salesman (very pushy) told me this wasn't so...so I started looking elsewhere...

Found Bigbee steel buildings on the internet...placed a call and had the local area rep call me back in less than an hour...received a quote in about 2 hours...

A steel 30x50x12 building...delivered, installed and insulated cost me $10,000..now I still have to figure the slab, plumbing and wiring into this cost...but I save at least $10,000 and don't have to do the installation myself...confirmed the order and placed the down payment on the spot!!

About an hour later the "pushy" Miracle steel rep called me back to try to close the deal on his building...told him what I had done...the man went nearly ballistic...told me what a POS anybody else's building was...how it wouldn't stand over 5 years, would leak in 3 years, blah, blah, blah....then HUNG UP ON ME....

Now before this, I have praised my building to anyone who would listen...have recommended them several times on this forum as a great building...but, after this fiasco....I wouldn't recommend Miracle Steel to my WORST ENEMY!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

YMMV

OOPS!

10,000 registered affluent users -- 72,000 browsers -- each one of them knows others -- a significant number want buildings -- Miracle Steel is sure going to wonder what happened!

Thanks for the report.

I am looking at adding a "flameble" building to my operation to store motor oils, chemicals, etc. Essentially a building that if it burns, there will be no way to save it. It will be physically seperated from my main building by 5' on all sides with a connection "tunnel" for the forklift drivers to get from the main building to the new building and that tunnel would be protected by 1-hour fire doors on each side of the tunnel.

I told my general manager to contact Miracle Truss last week! Yikes.

I also like PERKA buildings, does anyone have any current information on PERKA and how they are to deal with?

I looked into them over a year ago and decided to go with a pole barn by a local contractor - way too expensive for what you get.

Several years ago, I checked with them regarding a building, they had a sale, the quote was for that day only and if you ordered it later, it would be thousands higher. I will not do business with a company that conducts its sales in such a manner.

we've had one of their building for about 20 years now, it was built as an equipment shed, and has worked well, but it's not insulated, so it's hot as you know what in the summer, and just as cold in the winter. it leaks around the bolts, it sweats in damp weather, and the bolt heads have all rusted, and are staining the building...

other then that. it's been a good building, for a storage shed, i wouldn't want to have to work in it for long.

Great to deal with! I have delt with Martial at Perka and have my frames sitting in my yard waiting to be put up this summer. If you do a search in the build it yourself forum you will find a little more info.

Bought a U.S. Building from factory phone call, after making and checking several. We dickered for days and they gave me a 36X24 and one end wall for just under $8K. I fabricated one end wall and bought a roll up door (10X12) for 700 installed. Two years later, no rust, no leaks, and no complaints. Took me 8 days to assemble and erect the building after the slab was poured.
Good Luck, Mark

I helped my brother build a 42X48 Miracle Truss Building about 3 years ago.. He also had a bit of trouble with the salesperson, but aside from that... its a wonderful building. He only purchased the steel framework from the company and purchased the tin locally.. His building required some addtional reinforcements, as we used a 40' bi-fold door on one end, and went with asphault shingles on the roof (higher snow-loads)

Forgot to mention in the previous posting.... I will agree that a pole-shed is considerably less expensive, but using a Miracle Truss building allowed us to use 16' sidewalls and still keep the inside of the building open. We used the extra space to put a loft over the bathroom. (Thats where the "boys only" room is located) which works good for drinking beer and playing cards. Attachment shows the inside of building

I am thinking of putting up a 36' W 24' L miracle truss building and was wandering since it seems like the sales people are some what hard to deal with what would be the best approach? Also do feel wood siding would be better and a shingle roof ( I live in Ohio ) . /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

There are lots of shed manufaturers. If you are uncomfortable dealing with one company, look to another. You will find someone who matches your goals & needs & personality. It is very competitive field, and some companies have taken strange paths to try to make sales. If you don't like their appoach now, look for someone better.

Here in Minnesota, a metal outside is the most durable, least upkeep required. I would never ever put an asphalt shingle roof on a farm building ever. Tin is no maintenence. Those shingles hold too much snow, tear off in wind, don't last as long. For siding, metal is a better bang for the buck for similar reasons. Perhaps you or your community requires a different look, and wood siding can fit in better.

Would not use anything but good metal for the roof tho, far far far less troubles over the next 50 years.

Not sure what you are asking for beyond that?

I found after searching a long time that the miracle truss frames would be easier ( In My Opinion )to build with using conventional wood purlins.
I started looking at the Perka frames. The Perka frames were listed on EBay. I contacted Perka directly through the EBay bid for steel frames only. My info was forwarded to their New England Rep. So then I was repeatedly contacted regarding turnkey installations. I wasn't interested in having the building installed. I was just looking for the steel frames as listed on EBay. I never got a delivery price for any frames just inflated quotes for the entire turnkey building. The quotes were higher than Miracle Truss. I think ( My opinion again ) that Perka depends upon your area distributor. HTH.

Like many others, I'm looking to build a shed this spring. I started another topic about the Socket System.

other topic

In case you want to visit their web site, it is:

socket system

After getting some preliminary prices, it looks like a 30 x 50 x 12 building will be about $500 more expensive, but easier to build.

One fellow has some really great photos of building his shed. You might want to consider this as another possibility. At this point I'm still not sure which way to go.
