Misusing tools.

I am trying to remove a rather large stump with my subcut tractor and need to cut the roots at the stump. It is growing over a rock so the roots are visible, and rock is underneath. Using a chain saw proves difficult, so I was trying to think creativley.

I guess I have doubts about this, thus the post, but hey what the hey.

Does anyone see anything really bad about putting a 6" circular saw blade in a 7" angle grinder? I know they make similar things for wood carving, but not sure if that is a different type of blade. Is this a decent idea, anyone do this before? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If you're going to go that route, why not just leave the blade in a circular saw to give you more control and protection?

I've made some pretty scary tool modifications, but what you're describing sounds like a trip to the hospital waiting to happen.

Here's another thought...are you out in the country? Is the stump away from any major dwellings? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

if I were you i would use a SAWZSALL or a tree pruner, NEVER put a circular sawblade into a grinder, which if it catches the balde will pull the grinder very quickly not to mention you're fingers would be aullfull close to the blade..

I would even hand sw it first, (perhaps chainsaw slightly more than 1/2 way then use hand saw/pruning saw. roots cut pretty easy most of the time like that. but what you describe , I wouldn't attempt and I can really modify some tools using extra force welders & cutting equipment.

An exposed circular saw blade in an angle grinder is asking for trouble no matter how you look at it. If you do need a saw try a Sawzall with coarse blades and be careful out there.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME OR ANYWHERE ON EARTH!!!
A circular saw runs at top 5400rpm an angle grinder runs at twice or more!! You are just asking for bits of shrapnel flying into your eyes.nose,arms or worse!!
You can use some of the other tools mentioned or my favorite...a hatchet...cut nearly through and break off the rest.

Yeah, I figured it was not very bright. I already tried a sawzall with a pruning blade, but it did not go very fast. I 'll go back to that and just take my time. My time is worth a lot less than a finger or a hand!

I'll stick with my 1st instinct and NOT do it.

The only tool that works everytime and has a proven track record for success is the good ole axe. Sometimes it takes awhile, but sooner or later it will get the job done.

Get a cheapo electric chain saw from harbor freight.
It should last long enough to do this job.

Tools & Treasures used to be a clone of harbor freight.

Dynamite would be my choice. Easy to make at home.
Home made napalm would be safer. Be careful.
