I would not have thought you could get rid of it before it blew up in your face. When I was a little kid, my Dad drove a truck selling welding supplies. I think the carbide that he sold came in 25 pound cans. One of his customers spilled a bunch on the ground once and I gathered it up to play with. One tablespoonful dumped into a coffee can of water would make the water boil, and if you were quick enough, you could light it with a match, but it didn't last long. Of course Dad told me to never put more than one tablespoonful in a can of water at a time. Well, that just didn't last long enough, so one day I very quickly put 3 or 4 tablespoonsful in the water and lit it. There was a small explosion and I thought my right hand was on fire but didn't see any flames on it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif But I had to be careful to not let Mother or Dad see my right hand for a day or two because if Dad had found out what I did, the beating would have been worse than the burned hand. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Bird the very same gas that carbide makes is acetylene. We used to fill a large balloon with the gas and tie a string on the neck. We would light the string on fire and launch the balloon in a slight breeze. Depending on how large the balloon was you could get a pretty nice mushroom cloud going.

Use a plastic soda bottle and you have some time to hold it.
It takes time to build up pressure.
The bottle will start inflating like a balloon.
2 and 3 liter bottles get huge with huge explosions to match.

Unless they explode near a flame it's just like popping a balloon.
But the plastic is thicker and the pressure is higher.
Thus more energy goes into the explosion.

Back when soft drinks came in glass bottles with steel lids
I could fill one up with water and put the lid on it and toss it into the campfire.
I did this exactly one time as a teenager camping with friends.
I made one and tossed it into the fire one nite.
A friend asked me what was that. I replied: water bomb.
He said will it work, will it really explode. I said sure will, just wait.
If any of you here know the power of a flash steam explosion then you understand.
We all ran and hid behind stuff and waited.
Didn't take long. It went off and blew that campfire in all directions. It blew it out.
My friends threated to beat me within an inch of my life if I ever done that again.

I made something like this a few years ago to trim up some willows and other woody plants around the pond at work. I have a strange fear of frogs and toads, guess that makes me a toadaphobic. grin I took a boat andwent around an saw what all I had to do so I went to a discount store and bought a Weedeater and took the head off. It was a 5/8ths shaft and I mounted a 7.250 blade that worked good but what worked better was the 12 inch blade. I could cut the stmps off under water. and even clumps of catttails. The 7 inch blades work best for dirt and roots though. Plus the business end is away from you.

Do you guys still have all your body parts? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To that question not all of them. Missing a joint from using a new skill saw lol.

I still have most of my body parts.
Only one missing is a brain.
I got fluff for brains.

Seriously folks, don't try this stuff at home.
The authorities take a rather dim view of it.

I don't think the "joint" was missed.

I didn't know that about the muratic acid and tin foil.
Will have to investigate that one some.

And on a more productive note,
Get a piece of 3 inch plastic electrical conduit.
Get a piece of threaded rod same length as the conduit.
Get a tennis ball. Drill a hole straight thru the tennis ball smaller than the threaded rod.
Put a nut and flat washer on the threaded rod, put the tennis ball on the
threaded rod, put another nut and flat washer on the threaded rod.
Stick the tennis ball in one end of the conduit.
Cap the other end with a way to hook it up to a pressurized
air/water/hydrualic source. Instant pneumatic/hydrualic cylinder.
Great for all kinds of light duty uses.
Little imagination you can scale it up to whatever length conduit you can get.

You can do the same thing with a 3/4 dowel rod and a piece of
3/4 PVC pipe and and O ring. Cut a groove around one end of
the dowel to accept the O ring and stick it in the PVC pipe.

Just some things to do with pressurized pipe other than tater guns.

Anybody know how to make a home made paint ball gun?
