The first day out for summer vacation when I was 15 I was i nthe shop making some shelves for weldingrods and other items in the old shed I hit a spike in the board and it let a chunk jam the guard up. The resulting finger removal is still visible today. They reattached the remainder I was so scred i couldnt look at it. They asked can you feel it I said ep and the left it on. a day later changing the bandage i saw the 35degree angle my finger was on and almost freaked.

Pooh Bear, Just a funny little story I'd like to throw out. When my daughter returned from serving in the Gulf war in '91 one of the things she brought back was a fiuture husband a rural raised young man from Illinois. While getting to know each other he was going to impress his city raised future father-in-law his 'tater gun. After a few demonstrations he ran out of accelerant, we didn't have any hairspray in the house so he was about to end the demo. When hi "inexperienced" father-in-law came up from the basement with can of starting fluid ( ether ). The superior performance impressed him so much we've gotten along pretty well since then. I guess this city boy wasn't so dumb after all.

Since this post is already far off track.... in the 60's (my teenage years) in northern New Hampshire woodchuck hunting was great sport. Now, since the arrival of coyotes, woodchucks are only close to buildings & less availible to shoot at. Do any of you remember the Monty Python exploding penguin on top of the television? Well, last year I managed to shoot a woodchuck in the field across from my camp just after the hay was cut. My buddy came along and we hatched a plan. Found a 2 litre soda bottle with a cap. Lit my oxy/acetylene torch and adjusted to a cutting flame, swiped a glove across the tip to extinguish the flame, and filled the soda bottle with the mixture. For the uninitiated this is a shock sensative explosive mixture. We stretched the woodchuck skin over the bottle and placed it back at the burrow, popped a couple of cold beers & waited. In less than 1/2 hour a young buck came driving by & spied the chuck. He quickly stopped his truck, dismounted, took careful aim, and fired. We nearly pi**ed our pants at the shock on his face when that woodchuck exploded. Hope another chuck adopts that burrow!!!

same experience. Also we were able to find ammo in the woods - WWII rolled over my country just enough to leave some in there.

Same thing, rusty ammo from schmeisser in the fire) and hiding behind a tree waiting for the bang.

Boy we were stupid, got quite few scars from it too.

Not meaning to devert this post back to the original track, but have you thought about building something similiar to my stump grinder/ trencher that I posted about a while back?
I cut the roots from a neighbors tree where they threatened to break my driveway. I just pulled it back and forth across the opening to kill the roots, without cutting the tree. Earlier a large limb fell and hit the wifes car, and he refused to help with the damage. I called a friend who sent his son to cut all the limbs on my property line. That and the roots cut by the trencher tend to make this one likely to fall towards his house next time. Watch out during the next hurricane.
