Mitsubishi D1600
I have a D1600 that was running great for about a year. Stopped working this weekend after a friend was driving it (of course). I think it ran out of fuel.
  • Starter: turns over fine
  • Battery: reading healthy voltage, have tried jumping just in case
  • Tank: full (now)
  • Fuel lines: bled from tank to fuel pump
  • Fuel filter: this wasn't full of fuel before bleeding so there was definitely air in the system
  • Fuel pump: Not sure if it's working. Have tried tapping the pump with hammer while starting.
  • Injectors: If I take the metal fuel lines off at the injector, when I try to start a tiny but of fuel squirts out but it doesn't seem like a lot. I'm not sure the procedure for bleeding these lines
Does my diagnosis of air in the fuel lines seem right? Anything else I should check? Any good instructions on bleeding the metal fuel lines between the pump and the injectors?

Thanks!

I had a Mitsubishi D2350 for several years. You do NOT want to run out of fuel. Bleeding the air on that tractor was a multi step process and had to be done in order. I don't remember all the bleed points but I think there were three. One may have been near the filter to ensure it had fuel there. The others were up above. Follow the fuel lines from the filter and if you see what appears to be a removable bleed screw bleed there. Count them, there may be three or four.

Follow this. Our tractors do the same thing.

Super helpful, thank you! I bled the steel lines and I can hear it do the little hiccup where it almost tries to start but I think it's a heat issue now. I don't see the glow plug light turn on when I try to glow it. The bulb looks good. How do I verify that the plugs themselves are good? Or is wiring a more likely culprit?

If your tractor is as old as mine was there is really no glow plug light. My tractor had a voltage dropping resistor on the dash behind a cover with holes in it. It was supposed to glow red when glow plugs were energized but I never saw it glow. Start by checking to see if you get voltage to the glow plugs when they're supposed to be energized. They should get about ten volts if the battery has a full charge. If you get no volts one or more glow plugs may be shorted internally or you may have an open circuit at the resistor. The current flowing causes the nichrome wire to corrode at the screws. You can remove the glow assembly and clean the terminals. You can also feel to see if the glow plugs got warm but use caution, they get very hot when they work and can burn your hand.
