I have two 5 gallon plastic gasoline containers. One has about 4 gallons of ethanol free 91 octane in it, the other has 4 gallons regular 87 pump gas with ethanol 10-15%. Is there some way to figure out which is which since they got mixed up? I need to use the ethanol-free in the riding mower and since it cost like $4.40 a gallon I'd like to use it for that and not repurchase if possible.

The corn gas won't bother the mower. That's all I used for years without any trouble.

How much gas do you burn a month? I might consider combining them and just run it. Add SeaFoam or Marvel Mystery Oil.

I wrapped a piece of green marking take around the handle of the cans I use for real gas. Something to consider for future.

Perhaps a test tube color test. Draw a sample of known corn gas from a vehicle for control.

Does it really matter? If the non-ethanol is $4.40/gallon and the ethanol stuff is what? $3.30 a gallon? If you replace it, it's costing you less than $5.

(4 gallons * price difference)

Put a bit of water in a small container, preferably a tall narrow one similar to a test tube. Mark the height of the water on the tube, now pour in 5-10x as much gas, shake and let it settle. If the separation line between fuel and water is higher after letting it sit for a few minutes, it's the ethanol gas. Reason being ethanol will mix with water and separate out..........Mike

Mix them together and use them up, as has been said a bit of stabil or my favorite additive a bit of 50-1 two stroke oil.

Seems kinda like trying to pick the fly chit out of the pepper!
