Kubota BX25, BX1870-1
Hi,

I am taking delivery of my second BX tomorrow, a BX1870-1 with a 48" MMM and front mount snow blower. I have an overhead door to my shed that is 6' wide x 7' high. I would like to favor one side to leave as much room on the other since my shed is only 8' wide x 12' deep. Is there a good way to keep the discharge flap up? I figure this will buy me a few inches on one side or prevent me from tripping over it on the other. Can I drill a small hole in it and use a bungee cord or just remove it? It is the fine cut deck. Not sure what others have done. I think my shed will hold the weight of the tractor, find out I guess.

I currently have a BX-25 with a 60" MMM and to be honest I guess I am getting lazier as I get older and didn't want to remove the FEL when I needed to mow and I figured it was just a matter of time before I hit something with it. I also have a few 3pt. implements that I figure the smaller BX can run. I'd like to keep the BX-25 set up with the FEL and BH on.

I'll have to report back in the winter about the snow blower, I have the 60" blade now and it worked OK but I wish I got the snow blower instead after having it a few years. After reading up on it and seeing how happy people have been with it I am hoping I will not be disappointed.

Thanks.

Hole in flap, bungee cord to mower, done.

Don't drill a hole in the deflector. I lift the deflector and stick a short piece of 2 x 4 (about 6 inches long) in the notch at the base. Works great and easier than a cord.

Don't do the above, the last thing you need is a 2x4 piece coming loose and getting caught up in the mower and getting tossed at high velocity.......

Umm, it's only for storage. The deflector shouldn't be raised when mowing.

A bungee cord may work without having to drill a hole in it. Or a piece of rope

Bungees are your friend! Use them early and often! :D

I originally went the drilled hole/bungee route and it worked fine. When I added the Cyclone Rake, it changed the two mounting bolts to studs. So now my discharge flap is held on by two large knurled knobs and I just take it off completely.

Right. Shouldn't be raised or removed when mowing, but more pros and homeowners remove them completely, unfortunately. I'm sure that is how my office picture window got taken out by the guy who used to do our lawn when we were away.:confused3:

Thanks! I have a bunch of bungee cords so I will go that route.

The blower will really throw snow but make sure you have a good supply of shear bolts. I'd recommend getting a pin punch about the same size as the bolts too for those times when the broken bolt just doesn't want to come out.

Haystring is cheaper and I never run out. Bungees are always in short supply!

I have mounted an eyebolt on the end of the metal discharge chute. Just a drilled hole in the rubber chute.

I have used a bungee for this for years, no hole in flap required, just hook the bungee over the lip of the flap and hook the other end to the rod holding the brake pedal or some other handy location

Thanks for the replies and advise. Looks like there is a hole in the deck under the flap so I don't have to drill in the chute. I made a dolly for the snow blower and it fits nicely in the back corner of my small storage shed. The 1870 also fit in there with enough room for my push mower and a bunch of other stuff. I think I will just be able to make it length wise this winter with the snow blower on with a couple of inches to spare.

Thanks for the advise on the shear pins, it came with 2 extra but with my luck that won't be enough to make it form the shed to the driveway.

I'd be willing to bet there is a way to do this mechanically, as in moving a snow blower chute. Just a few rods and a rod holding mount bar. Or, how about a choke cable ?
