I can not get spindle shaft grease fittings to take any grease on either side of my BX 60" MMM. Can they be removed and cleaned or is it easier to replace them? Are they screw-in or press-in?

They should be screw in grease fittings. I have never seen press in grease fittings. I would buy a couple of new fittings. If you have a Harbor Freight near you, they sell grease fittings at a lower cost than most other places. I bought a metric set of 30 on sale for $3.99 a few weeks ago.

You need to find out of its the fitting giving you problems or not. Sometimes the grease can get hard behind the fitting due to heat, dirt and pressure.

Remove the fitting and see if its plugged up or not. In otherwords see of you can shoot grease through it. If you can then you'll need a pick to get out the junk out of the hole you just unscrewed the fitting from. Same thing for the fitting take a pick to it. I wouldn't spend more than 30 seconds on it, just put in a new zirc.

I picked stuff out before and still could not grease it. If that happens then fill the hole with WD-40 or some other very light oil. Screw the zirc back in and grease it.

Have you greased them before? Are they covered with paint? If so, just use a small wire brush to clean off the paint. You can also try pressing in on the ball with a small punch. Sometimes they are just a little stuck.

Good Luck,

When I bought my bx-22 there were several fittings on the backhoe that would not take grease. I thought there was a problem with the grease fittings on the tractor, but it turned out to be a problem with the grease fitting on my grease gun. I went to tractor supply and spent $10 on a "heavy duty" fitting for my grease gun, and now all the fittings accept the grease. Apparently my old fitting on the gun did not hold tight enough, and the grease simply spilled out around the fitting instead of forcing it in. You get what you pay for in most instances.
