I tried a 54" MMM on my 4100 last week and I learned to hate it real quick. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
The JD dealer installed it and managed to bend a hydraulic line 90 deg. to pinch it and cause it to leak. The deck apparently did not clear the line, not even close, and smashed it up against the bottom of the tractor. The line has a banjo fitting on one end so the dealer has to order a new one and replace it.
Adjustments are cumbersome at best and the plastic wheels are very poorly designed in fit and placement.
I told dealer I don't want it and want a BH finish mower instead. We have not yet worked out the $ on the swap. I know this will cost me as I made the decision to order the MMM in the first place but I guess I expected a little more for the $1600 price tag on the deck than what I got. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I wanted no part of the MMM for my 4110, especially due to the cost. I don't have much to mow (about an acre) so I was able to buy a small LT for less than the 54'MMM.

Just curious--what part of the adjustments do you find cumbersome? Is the deck attached differently on the 4100 than the newer 4X10 tractors.

I'll agree with you on the price tag, but I am happy with the mower. What I couldn't justify was the extra money for the 60 inch.

As far as the wheels are concerned--the ultimate is to have the wheels turn with the deck (not just roll forward/backward), but the wheels are never on the ground when I mow as they are only used for anitscalp and have done a good job for me. I can envision other types of terrain where the wheels would not be adequate.

Glad you made your decision to change early on--I'm sure it would have cost even more money later on.

Good Luck

Bob

I've got the 60" deck on my 4110 and I generally like it. I've found that installing and removing the deck is not a real fun task, but I'm definitely getting better at it. I think that, even with the whells turned to the side, that rolling the deck under the tractor is not real easy. I read this on some other post a while back, but raising the front of the tractor up with the FEL really offers a lot more clearance and makes getting the deck under the tractor a lot easier.
All in all, I think that getting the deck on and off is the only hassel. I can't imagine what it took to actually damage the hydraulic lines in the process, but I always remove and replace the deck from the brake pedal side of the tractor.
Good luck with whatever mower you go with!

Thanks for those comments. I think I would have gone through the learning curve of installation and removal if the hydraulic line did not get smashed. I find the holes in the wheel spindles don't line up to allow for the springed clips to engage. A real hassel to force them into place. I had a rear finish mower for the past 5 years and I think I am spoiled in the ease of removing it compared to the MMM. Still don't know what it will cost me...will let you know.
