Kubota B2320 FEL, MMM
I've been in a dilema to either buy a used tractor to just mow the grass at our 7 acres (about 5 acres to mow) or go ahead get what I will eventually need when we build our house (1-2 years away).

I've decided to just get something to haul out the property to keep the grass down. Right now its only about shin high and I can't let it get too bad due to the neighborhood assoc. I don't have a trailor but a relative has one that hauls his Kubota B2710 w/out a FEL so I'm a little limited on how big I can go.

Anyway I have looked at a few B7500s, a MF GC2300, a NH TZ25, couple BXs, and a few others but all of them except one has a MMM. Would a MMM work on 1-2 ft. grass or is it not built for this. I'm sure I could find one w/out a MMM but that's what I've found locally. The land is flat, no hills at all.

Though I've never attempted to mow grass that tall with a MMM, I'm gonna guess its not going to work real well. I'd suggest mowing every week to two weeks using a MMM. For grass that tall, I'll recommend a light duty brush hog. Keep the blades sharp, and they actually can make a decent looking cut. The tractors you mentioned should handle a four footer.

A MMM is not the best choice for what you want to do, but it will probably work for you. I have a Kubota B7500 with a 60" MMM that I have used to cut a 5 acre horse pasture and a 2-3 acre meadow (old hay field) for the past 6 years. I cut with the deck in the raised transport position, which provides a 6" cut. I have cut 2' high grass (slowly), but usually cut when the field is about 1' high. I generally cut about every 4 weeks. Before the B7500, I mowed with a 20 hp Wheelhorse 520H (garden tractor) with a 48" MMM. The Wheelhorse did the job, just a lot slower.

I have used the 60" MMM on my BX to mow grass that was maybe as tall as 3 feet. It works pretty lousy. You have to go back and forth over it several times. For grass that is only a foot or so tall, it will work better, but you may find it still won't cut it in one pass. A brush hog would work better.

Get the tractor with a MMM, then get a brush hog; problem solved.

I've mowed 2 foot tall grass with a 72 inch MMM on a B2910. Not fun, but it will do it. The trick was to hold the deck as high as possible, and also set the chute to full open.

WARNING!!! Both of the above are dangerous to do. "Stuff" can shoot out very easily from under the deck and at very high speed. My dad tells about once hitting a nail sitting on the lawn just right (a 16d spike) and it drove 1/2 inch into the house... As a result, keep people far away when doing something like this if you elect to do so...

Good luck. I'd agree that a brush hog or alike would be the better choice to knock it down...
