Does anyone have any suggestions as how to easily and conveniently access the blades on a 72"MMM for sharpening? On the tractor I can get to the outside blades but the center blade is a problem. Off of the tractor it is a bit heavy to flip over like I can do with the 54" deck from my 425. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have used 2 different ways to lift the deck to a nearly vertical position for removal of the blades and cleaning: (1) Use the loader, and (2) Use the rear 3 point hitch with a boom pole or pallet fork. I connect the deck to the lifting device with sling straps. Leave the lifting tractor engine running while you are working on the deck to prevent leak-down or a quick drop. I also prop the deck up with a 2 x 4 for additional security. Be careful.

I never gave it a thought when I decided I "needed" a 72" MMM, my old 60" I could lift up against the wall but this thing would make the veins stick out too far on my neck. I ended up getting a chain hoist from Grizzly for about $40 and it works great. I hang it over a ceiling joist close to the wall and tip up the deck, top towards the wall.

Doug,I run our tractors up on a set of car ramps to remove and sharpen blades. It works fine for me and is a big time saver.

Just the standard, one piece, ramps you can get at an auto store? Have you ever tried sharpening the blades while they're on the deck?

Yes,standard ramps from the parts store. You about need 4WD to climb up on them. No,I always remove the blades, clean the build-up off, sharpen and balance.I have sharpened the blades on our rotory cutter while still on the machine, but that's it.
