Does anyone know who makes the oil John Deere packages/sells?

I emailed a service engineer from kubota engines and ask if mobil-1 could be used in my kubota engine 905e. His response was.

"Good Morning Steve,

Thank you for your inquiry. Please follow your operators manual in regards to oil change intervals and "grade" of oil. The use of synthetic oils has no real benefit as the oil change interval can not be extended. Synthetic oils can be used as long as they are of the proper "grade" of CD (for Diesels) or better and the oil is changed per the operator's manual. Thank you again for your business. Proper maintenance is the key for many years of reliable service.

According to Mobil, Mobil-1 is CF rated at least for 10w-30 weight and is fine and has been tested in diesel tests for the CF rating. It will be fine. Has been used for years. Of course Mobil builds Delvac-1 especially for diesels and would be better but can be tough to find. I have used Mobil 1 and Delvac 1 for years, both in diesels.

Just checked my JD dealer (Wineland Equipment - Martinsburg, PA; a GREAT dealer), and the 0W-40 synthetic there was $4.35/qt. Little, if any, more than Syntec, Mobil 1, etc.. at the Wal-Marts around here. Picked up a few cases to try in my 955 and X595. Couldn't hurt, right?

This has been a most interesting thread. I've learned a lot.

I've decided, like RWEST, to go with the JD 0w40 synthetic. I only have one tractor with a small Yanmar that uses only 3-4 qts per change - I'll stick with the JD stuff for the small amount I use.

And, when I went to pick the oil up today, he gave me a 10% discount, on case lots. That's under $4.00/quart, which is pretty good, to me.

The parts guy said he runs it in his pickup truck. Hmmm. Maybe I can settle on one for everything /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Moly

No responsible oil formulator uses Moly disulfide in motor oil. Moly disulfide is used in grease and is an excellent additive for that purpose.

Pennzoil and John Deere have formulated oil with moly for quite some time. Check out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com for the virgin and used oil analysis sections.

You will note many oils are now starting to formulate using moly now. The moly adds an anti wear additive that is effective at times and temperatures that the zinc and phos are not effective.

Pennzoil and Mobil 1 are the most commonly available Over the Counter oils that contain moly. Several, Schaeffers and Redline, harder to find oils are probably the originators of fully suspended moly in motor oil.

I use the Schaeffer's products in all my machines. This allows me to order in $250 lots thus achieving a jobber price and free delivery.
