Not the case in this state. When I bought my trailer I made sure it had DOT tires; the brakes were worn out, so I thought to fix them by swapping out my axles. I've since been told several times that it is not legal. I'm not sure why, but I suppose it's the same logic which prevents me from replacing the undersized P-rated tires on my pickup with something useful. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I checked out the site mentioned above, but I can buy complete axle sets more suited for my trailer, for less money than it would cost me to convert what I have now. they want 149$ per brake set; then as much again for hubs. That's $1200 plus shipping; before buying 5 wheels and tires. I can almost buy a brand new trailer for that kind of money.

My cost was 388.40 to convert my mobile home brake axles.
I have a one ton truck that uses E rated tires (over 3000 lb load rating per tire) which I always keep any good ones when buying a new set, so I consider my tires free.

You must not have needed new brake assemblies. They really add to the cost. Also, the price of steel has gone up; the cheapest hubs I could find were 83.44, plus shipping; then tack on the price of the wheels.
