Ok, thanks.

Would I have any problems selling the 60" and buying a 48" deck. Do dealers do this? Or will I need to find an individual selling a 48"? How much is a 60" and a 48" worth$$??

Also how hard is it to remove the deck, for transport?

I'd suggest a 54" deck if you need to narrow it down a bit. The 60" deck is super heavy duty though.

The 48 and 54 decks for that machine work fairly well, BUT tend to load up if the grass is heavy and moist.

Everything I will be cutting is clean rolling terrain St. Augustine.

Some areas I will either have to do with my push mower or go with a smaller deck.

You should be able to find somebody willing to swap decks out. The 60" decks are in more demand on those tractors. I would tend to agree with trying to find a 54", I'm going to make the same switch with mine this summer.
(started with a 60, then had a 48 for the past 2 years, got another 60 this year, and now buying a house with a small yard, and want to get the 54!)

and yes,, they are HEAVY!

The deck is easy to remove to transport, but it is heavy. A floor jack makes removal easier. Two clips under the footplates, the front cams down then the drive shaft just pulls off. The drive shaft is easier to get off than on cause you are pulling and pushing at the same time, with out a lot of room.

For the PTO drive disconnect, do as BarryinMN mentions and reach it from behind the tractor, as it is easier than reaching around the front of the left tire (that is if you do not have the all-wheel-steer model).
These decks are quite easy to remove and install. I like to use a small floor jack under the rear axle to get the tractor up just a bit to roll the deck out (and in), but not absolutely necessary. Hopefully you did get the manual with the tractor.

Actually I probably wont get a manuel. Does anyone know where I can download one from? Or will I need to buy one from the dealer?

You say the drive shaft just pulls off? I am going to pick od the deck tonight and the tractor Friday night. Do I need any special tools to take it off. Will this be something I could do before church, I would have some daylight if so?

I have a JD 425 and I believe the deck removal is the same. Turn the deck wheels sideways first, this allows the deck to roll out. No tools are needed and is very easy to do. As mentioned earlier check the screen on the radiator, it just pulls up and out, with the hood raised.

Thanks I will try that tonight. You guys have been very helpful. i really appreciate all the information.

Can I ask one more question...I have a 4' box blade that used to be used on a old '48 8N Ford. The Ford is gone and now I am curious if I find a 3-pt hitch for this will I be able to use it? What else will I need?
