I have a T474 I'm getting ready to sell. Oddly, it never says on my paperwork what year model it is. Is there a way I can tell from the serial number to be exact?

Tractors normally are sold by model number and not year of manufactory as vehicles are. You can check tractordata.com and see if they have the info. They do for many tractors, you will need it's serial number if they have your brand and model.

As already mentioned, the serial number is the best way. BUT... Manufacturers need to release that info--It's not always public. Another possibility is to check all the major castings. (Engine block, transmission, rear housing.) Many manufacturers have casting dates cast-in those parts as a means of "aging" before they're machined. They could be dd/mm/yy format or ddd/yy. Some may just be month and year. Dates in the first half will generally be that year tractor. Later dates may be assembled in the next year.

My Ford 3910 has a casting date in January, 1986 as "15-1-86" on the rear housing. The serial number confirms the 1986 year of manufacture.
