Modifications to a Jinma chipper

OK, now I'm confused. Agent Blue wants hydraulic feed, and sugarmaple talks about a feed roller.

I currently have a standalone (ProMark / Gravely 310) 23hp brush chipper, and when it was running right, anything that could fit in the feed hopper it could chew up with no problems. It would go through a 6 foot high, 15 foot diameter pile of brush in 15 minutes or less. Of course, it has a huge flywheel and 12" cutters on it, and hydraulic fed. Unfortunately, the engine blew, and it is about $2k to replace with a Honda gas engine. Diesel engine is even more money.

A Jimna PTO chipper can be had for $1450, and while I hate to get rid of the ProMark, I can get the 3ph chipper around a lot easier and into more places in the woods.

I'm not quite sure what Agent Blue's point was. I have read of some folks converting the roller to hydraulic drive, though.

I think sugarmaple was talking about a mechanical foot lever which raises the roller when a something gets stuck. This is yet another mod I plan to do.

Where can you get one for $1450? A local dealer or ebay/mailorder?

Great ideas for mods! I too have added a small toolbox and just today I added some skull protection. Seems like every time I walk by the chipper, I hit my head on the discharge chute. So I slit some heater hose and screwed it onto the chute.

I like it! Although I've never personally smacked my noggin on the discharge chute, I can think of a bunch places where heater hose would provide some protection.

I used a straw blower one time that had a chute that would rotate. I am working on a way to put a flat plate on top of the chipper and a matching plate on the chute. I just need to come up with some clamping method that can be loosened easy and then I can turn the chute instead of moving my tractor to aim the chips.

A good idea would be to put on a hard hat, ear protection, and eye protection. I wear those around my chipper when ever I am running it. Branches getting tossed and chips flying are the reason. My chipper chute would be hard to bang your head on though.
PS: That's my Dad walking away in the picture

"Local" dealer in WA. Gorilla Tractors - Implements

Also, there is a dealer in Newberg, OR with the same price. Woodchippers

Same dealer in Newberg will fill my rear tires with Rimseal for $180, which is less than half what the local NH dealer will do it for.

There is a Jinma listed on Craigslist here in Seattle for $1200 I think was the price.

Yes, very much so. In addition, it raises the height by 3.5" and keeps it off of the dirt. Additionally, I can use it to haul/store stuff in the back.

I used pressure treated 4x6s, but I suppose a 2x6 could be used as long as it doesn't extend too far.

The 'lip' that I was thinking about was to counter the effect where the sheet metal flexes and larger stickes with square ends get stopped by the anvil (see the side view, and the lip in red)

I like the idea that Kays Supply mentions. On each side of the roller, there are places were small brush & vines and miss the roller and get wrapped around the shaft. I've tried to draw my understanding of this in the top view.

I think mine actually came with those lips welded in. I will try and snap a picture this weekend.

This is the one I bought
