Modifications to my Kubota B2320

Leaving the Kubota ballast box empty is what I do. It is easy to muscle it around when not in use or when attaching it. I just add whatever is handy after it is hooked up...e.g. old iron, big rocks, concrete blocks etc. That also leaves space for whatever tool is needed. On my CUT the amount of ballast needed is usually not all that much anyhow. The neat thing about the Kubota box is that it works better in close spaces than a BB or RB etc. The down side is that the configuration doesn't allow for my EZ Hitch to attach without sawing the upright ears off of it. Your welding is beautiful....wish I could do that. Cheers, Mike BTW those loops that you welded to the box will make handy "grab handles" to muscle the box around...among other uses.

We have yet to take ours off since we put it on, but when we do, I plan to have a dolly ready for it to make it easier to get back on, though when we filled, we had it sitting on a pallet and it was a simple back up and hook up with our HF QH.

Here is our modest attempt to modify our "Kubota" branded BB. We figured out the total weight while filling it, and while I remember it was well over the minimum 500# recommended, the exact total is lost to memory.

I did have to change both the upper and lower mounting points to make them fit the HF QH. I left pims in the original lower points in case they ever need to be use. It's hard to see, but there is a HF bumper hitch box under the center of the back of the BB.

It's a mess because we use it so constantly to carry tools. The black bracket on the left edge is for our chain saw (out because my wife was out mowing.)

I like it. You have a lot of tool-holding capability there.

Is there any problem with pooling water, corrosion from the concrete etc.? I've thinking about filling mine with concrete also but I was warned about how corrosive it might be.

Hi Bill,

Thanks, I read a lot of others' threads and looked at a lot of pictures to decide what I thought would work best. It really make the tractor feel more balanced, and enables the FEL to max its functions.

I have thought about flipping it over and drilling weep holes under the PVC tubes, but now that we have a barn, I doubt it will ever be left out in the rain or snow. As to the corrosive effect of the concrete on the box, I have seen many less well painted/protected things used as shells for concrete implements, pole standards, rollers, etc, and none of them were adversely effected by the concrete. If you have any ideas about taking the concrete out again for some reason, I think you might well find some surface rust, but I doubt it would ever be any issue in regular use. The extra steel inside was settled well into the concrete and was completely covered by it, so there are no open or exposed interfaces where water can get between the steel and the crete, so I think the steel adds to the strength rather than causing any liabilities or weakness. It certainly added significantly to the weight.

Thanks again,
Thomas
