After two trips to the parts store today I still have a problem. Space for battery on New Holland TC29 is five inches, battery has a lip on front and back that makes it wider than 5". Think it is safe to take either a recip saw or multi tool and cut the lip or both off? Or keep trying to find the right sized battery? Thanks, Tim

I'm lazy. You're going to replace the battery sometime again in the future. Get the correct battery size once. Do a google search on battery group sizes. That'll help find the correct battery.

It may not hurt but there must be a battery for it even if you have to go to the dealer. I cant think of any 12 volt batteries that are only 5" wide other than motorcycle or maybe lawnmower batteries. Some of the old iron AG tractors used some double 6 volt (one on each side of the tractor) that might have been than narrow but they were about 18" long. I don't ever recall seeing one that size for a CUT 12 volt system.

I've ground those off on some, not a big deal. I wouldn't cut them, a die grinder with a sanding disc will take them off nice and smooth without going too far.

Maybe I should have 5" deep, flanges look like they are there for a bottom type holding system, one on front, one on back.

Just replaced the battery on my TC 33D last week. The manual identifies the battery as a group "45" battery (few and far between). A group "51" battery has almost identical demensions and are very common. I got my replacement at TSC around $90 with exchange and tax. I found I could have saved some money by getting a 51R battery at Menards, on sale, that would have had a better warranty. The 51R has the terminals reversed but with that narrow a battery, it doesn't make that much difference and would have moved the terminals out from under the tranny cooler lines. Wally world has the group 51 batteries also, if you shop this evening. good luck

Modifying the battery may void the warranty.
