Modular Homes - Good/Bad experiences... I am considering this pretty seriously...

Even people with no personal experience seem to chime in on this, relying on "heard from" information.
Like others who own modular homes, in my case, the only way to tell is the married walls, they are twice as thick as other interior walls. Double rim joists, but you can't tell there is a double unless you drill through. The roof from the attic side is constructed differently than stick, basically a two piece, Like in video, but ours meets the 60# snow load and 120 mph windspeed specs.
In CT and VT, there is NO difference in price when selling. There is NO banking issues, NO insurance issues.
Manufactured homes (trailer park type without wheels) are a different issue, at least come selling time. Can't speak of banking or insurance issues.

One of the biggest differences in modular vs manufactured home is that modular have drywall and manufactured have panels (paneling and the like). Also not a true door that you can just get anywhere on manufactured homes. I can get any of my doors for a lumber yard to the box stores! My modular home is no different from a "stick" built home. The only difference was it was trailered in and set on foundation. Can't tell from outside and if you weren't told, probably wouldn't notice the "marriage" wall. Would buy again if the need arises!

This is not even remotely true, sorry. The Actual difference is whether they are manufactured to Hud code (manufactered) or building code (modular). You can absolutely get Many manufactured with regular tape and texture or smooth finished drywall. You can also have a custom home built on site with 1/4" faux wood paneling. Doors are the same deal, you can 100% get standard pre-hung 3068s or 2868s or whatever you want in a manufactured. You can get a custom site built with vinyl siding, and you can get a manufactured with hardi board, and "lick-n-stick brick" or stone veneer; it's all in what you order.

Sure, the cheaper manufactered models will likely not have tape and texture drywall, and use the cover strips at the joints, but that is far from universal. Lots of manufactered have tile in kitchen/bath/show; and at the same time, a lot of residential developments base model site builds have vinyl, if you don't pay for the upgrade.

You can also have tape and texture in the 'public' areas, and cover strips in closets, bed rooms, ect. Lot of options, both in manufactured, modular, and site built. There are 2 story manufactered, 2 story modulars, basements, stem walls, slabs, or skirting. One thing I personally haven't seen is a split system AC, but I would guess that's available too.

I'm not trying to convince anyone, one way or the other, but take a look at some of the stuff that is available now. It's not the 1970s, single wide, aluminum siding, ect anymore.
