She put about 1/4 tank of gas in it(BX1800) /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. Noticed it started running poorly and smartly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif shut it down and called me. O.K........whats the routine for gas in diesel engine. I /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif get to solve her problem. She thanks you in advance. Chuck

If she shut it down quickly enough you may not have any damage. First step is to drain everything, fuel tank, fuel lines, and fuel filter. Then put in a new fuel filter, or wash the old one in diesel and reinstall it, and fill the fuel tank with diesel. Now maybe someone will give you more or better instructions, but that's what I'd do and then try starting it. I might loosen the lines at the injectors first and hit the starter to flush the last bit of gasoline and air from the lines before starting it.

One cold winter night a few years ago, my brother was accustomed to refueling his Cat powered truck at a particular station that had gasoline and diesel in the same pump; just a different hose. So he was used to grabbing the hose on the left to fill up. That night, there was another vehicle at the pump where he usually pulled in, so he pulled in on the other side of the pump, left the engine running, grabbed the left hose and started filling it (he forgot that on the other side of the pump, the right hose is diesel). When the truck started to run rough, it dawned on him what he'd done and he promptly shut everything down and called me to come help. By the time I loaded a 55 gallon barrel and my barrel pump in my pickup and drove 40 miles to where he was, he had already emptied the fuel filter and refilled it with diesel, so we pumped out the gas/diesel mixture from the tanks into the barrel, refueled with diesel and everything was OK. It did run just a little rough for a few seconds when he restarted it, but then smoothed out and he never had a problem with the truck.

Depending on how low the tank was when the gas was put in and how much was put in. The BX holds about 5 gallons. I would just drain the tank by disconnecting the line after the filter. Just let it run out into a container. Refill the tank with diesel and let it run. The filter is so small on the Kubota BX, that there will be no residual fuel to speak of, so you won't have to replace it unless it is clogged. Straight gasoline will harm a diesel engine, but if it was a 50/50 mix, I doubt that there will be any lasting effects. It might run a little rough when you first start it, but it should smooth out after a few minutes. You also might want to drain the oil in the event that any of the "thinner" fuel got past the rings. It is doubtful that this has happened, but it should be considered. Good luck and let us know how it works out...

I did the same thing on my B7500 - almost a whole 5 gallons of gas though.

Drained it, replaced the filter, started it up, and it's been running fine ever since.

Gas is a mysterious thing in a diesel engine. I have heard many horror stories about how,a engine would increase RPMs until it blowed up. But I also worked with a guy that owned a AutoCar road tractor. The first time that I saw him at a gas station putting in gas, I flipped out. He would put about 5 gallons on gas in a full tank of diesel. Said that it ran a lot better, but he has to watch the turbo temperature.

You better start checking on what she is putting in your coffee. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I did the same thing and ran it for at least an hour, wondering why it wasn't running very good. Drained, flushed, still purrs like a kitten. I figured it might have shortened the life of the fuel pump but otherwise did Zero damage to the engine.

Years ago I worked for a propane gas Co. that also handled gasoline. A fellow worker was driving a gasoline tank truck that held 2000 gallons. It had five separate tanks that held 2000 gallons total. In each tank was a different kind of petroleum product. A customer had a 500-gallon underground heating fuel tank to be filled. My cohort went to her house to fill it and acccidentally filled it with no-lead gasoline. He immediately called the plant for advice. The boss sent me there with a hand pump to pump it all out and refill it with heating oil. While pumping it out the lady of the house returned home. She looked at us funny but did not say anything as shr went in. In a moment she returned to the back door and said, ''what are you doing?''. We told her that we had put gasoline into her tank and was pumping it out. She went ballistic and called our boss. He assured her that we were correcting the situation. When we got back to the plant we debated what to do with the gas which now was contaminated with a small amount of heating fuel. We had a farm customer who had a large 10,000 diesel tank. He told us to keep the tank full all of the time. The boss said to take the 500-gallons of gas/heating fuel and dump it in the big tank if it was almost full. We did that. Several days later the farmer was in the plant. We all ran to the back because we thought he was going to bring up the fuel question. To our surprise he commented on the quality of the diesel we were supplying him. He said that he could run his tractors one gear higher than usual. His only complaint was that he could not turn his motors off. They would keep on dieseling!!!!!! We laughed about that for months afterward.

I've always dreamed of a vacation home in Hawaii. If my fuel supplier topped off my diesel tank with waste gasoline/fuel oil without my knowledge and I found out about it, I would have that vacation home.
