I've been looking at doing this for some time now. So I'm going to install a turbo on my tractor. I have bought the turbo and now I'm waiting on my parts from Caterpillar to come in. I'll post more pictures as I go along. Ask any questions. Enjoy.

What is the brand and model of the turbo? What is the displacement of the engine you're installing it on? Do you plan on adjusting the maximum fuel to the engine (altering the injection pump)? Have fun, mine was (is).

Hopefully the rest of the build will have as complete of pictures as the turbo alone :D

Good luck, can't wait to see your results!

It's a TD03-07T Mitsubishi turbo. Part# 49131-02531. This is the correct turbo for this engine and fulling set up. Yes, I'll post more pictures as I progress with the build. Still waiting on some parts from Caterpillar to have all the complete parts I need.

Just a quick update. My parts from Caterpillar have been slowly coming in. I have most everything that I need now but, I'm waiting on the oil feed line to the turbo from Cat. Their saying it will mid December before I get it. Here are just a few pics of the parts but not all are from Cat that I've received. Any questions please ask.

This should be interesting.
Do you mind posting the p/n’s that you will be using?
You have the Mitsubishi power plant correct?

   / Momtana 4940C With Turbo #7
Well let me show my ignorance! Just how do you know how to do this? How do you know what parts to get? The only thing I know about my diesel is it takes diesel. This is my first diesel ever so I really don't know much about them I know a little more than my last statement but not really a lot. Just curious is all mostly.

Then you are definitely ahead of some. At least one of my diesel tractors came with gas in it and may have been a reason (or THE reason) why the owner sold it. Would vapor lock after the engine (injector pump) warmed up. It's a shame when a person finds these things

Yes, my tractor has the Mitsubishi S4Q2 engine in it. Once I'm done with it I'll try a post all the part numbers and where I bought everything from.

I've worked on rotating equipment for a good bit of time now and so I've learned about engines gas and diesel along with manual and automatic transmissions. If man can build it, then man can fix it or make it better. I'm not a low budget or red neck builder. I pay very close attention to specs and measurements. The reason I have been saying I'm buying parts from Caterpillar is because Caterpillar is using the same Mitsubishi S4Q2-T engine in their 305C CR mini excavator as did Montana did in their 4940 series tractors but, not the turbo version of the S4Q2 engine. So, I'm getting parts from Caterpillar and other suppliers to complete my project.

Don't you have to change the crank and stuff like that to turbo?

No, current engine specs are fine. I have checked with Mitsubishi engineering.

I am real interested in how this turns out. I've got a Yanmar I am thinking of adding a turbo and want to hear how much power increase you get. Also will the factory cooling be enough to handle the turbo'd motor.....

I'm about to start installing the turbo. The growing season is over here in South East Texas so I'll have some down time on my tractor very soon. You mentioned about the cooling, that had been one area of concern. My tractor never runs hot and by adding a turbo if make it run a little hotter. I'll only know come next summer. If it does then I'll run a larger core radiator.

Here is a quick update. Its finished and runs very good. I can feel the power difference it's almost like I'm in a different tractor now. My tractor doesn't feel lazy or sluggish anymore and there is a power difference. Ask questions if you have any.

Nice job and congratulations  Can you tell us how much more fuel you're adding (if any) and how much boost it's making?

Nice. What are your expected HP/TQ gains? B.

Nice. What are your expected HP/TQ gains? B.

The technical information I have found on this set up shows a increase of 8 more hp and 21 more foot pounds of torque. I haven't had the chance to put it under a heavy load yet. It's winter here in Texas and the grass is not growing too high so I haven't put it work yet.

I can tell from using the FEL moving some heavy and sticky clay dirt around that the power and torque is much more then before. It never did run any hotter.

Getting back to my cooling question earlier......on my tractor I was thinking of adding an oil cooler instead of trying to increase water capacity..... thoughts? On my Myanmar they do make a turbo version and the power goes from 40 to 55 with a turbo addition so I'm thinking your estimates may be a little conservative.

Is that a factory tint on your windows?? It looks great!! How does the tractor sound now? Do you keep a window cracked to hear the whine??

Cheers

Roger
