Money No Object?

I really like the blade retention system Woods uses. Also the round back with a pipe built in on the Brush Bull series. The only negative I've heard about Woods is/was paint durability. Paint coming off in sheets. Hopefully this has been fixed. I own a Bush Hog 290 series. Bought used, price, (because used) was a big factor.

Our Woods DS1260 has very good paint, in spite of spending two of its four years outside and being drug through some really heavy stuff, it still looks pretty good if you clean all the debris off, no paint peeling so far.

I know the OP has already purchased but if money is no object, Brown is the best you can get.

I've only seen them in person and heard about usage. They are built like a tank. I could never afford one. :)

SoGeorgia,
I've been looking for Brown but there are no dealers in this area. I could afford a smaller one but without a local dealer its a no go.

I know it's a bit late, but I second the recommendation of the Brown Cutters.

It's been mentioned that they are some of the most heavy duty cutters you can buy and that is true. In fact, they're 600 series 5' cutter would be too much for your tractor so quite honestly, you wouldn't be able to handle the heaviest ones they make.
Also, I believe all the major players are using Chinese gearboxes now-Woods, Landpride, Bush Hog etc. Brown uses American made gear boxes in their 600 series mowers (but not in the 400 series).

The Woods cutter you purchased will make an excellent cutter for almost anyone's needs. I imagine it will outlive you.

Congrats, I've never heard anyone complaining about getting a too heavy duty cutter.

Do you what they use in the 400 series? Italian gearbox? Hope so:eek:

Unfortunately Chinese just like all the others.

I spoke with them about this and they said they had to go to Chinese gearboxes to keep the
Cost more inline with all the other manufacturers.

That's when he told me the 600 series were still American made, mostly because there aren't really any other cutters in the same league I app pose, so they aren't as worried about the bottom dollar pricing.

That's unfortunate.

I was hoping for at least an Italian gearbox. I mean it's not like the 415 is a "value priced" unit at nearly $3000 for a 5'. You'd think there would be enough there to at least spec a non-chinese gearbox

The PTO hp & weight of your tractors are the most important considerations when picking an impediment. Followed by what you actually want to do with the compliment. The strongest compliment around is useless if your tractor can't pull or spin it properly.

You have to love it when the auto-correct / spell check changes your implement to an impediment or a compliment!!

I was hoping the paint problem was fixed, rumor, or only affected a few units. I do like Woods products. Fading would not bother me, coming off in sheets would.

I had heard the same thing, may have been a bad run, or as you mentioned certain models or maybe poor quality control for a time. We also have a Wood 121 over 20 years old left out for a lot of years and it is getting a little rusty, but no paint peeling. Our renters use a couple of 15' bat wing cutters as do most in my area and they hold up really well, but I haven't seen many smaller units.

Speaking of deck thickness, I ran across this ad. I know nothing about them other than the ad and what I've seen passing by on the freeway.

They say their deck is 1/4 inch. Also I think they have galvanized.

I thought Tytan was more a regional Chinese tractor and implement company at one time. Like is often the case, they expand from there. Their tractors remind me of an LS knock off at first glance.
