Post again when you're 70 years old.....

Check back in 8 years. I quit smoking 23 years ago after seeing too many people I knew and loved die from lung disease. I really can’t think of a worse way to die than from lack of oxygen. I sat in a hospital room and watched my father draw his last shallow breath.

Eighty plus here; worked as a tech. and Research Chemist for 16 years, painted houses for about four (including lead paint); Environmental Attorney for about twenty five years; been in Uranium mines, chemical plants handling NaClO3, Yellow Cake, Uranium hexafluoride, smoked cigarettes up until 1982 (20 plus years), etc. Like I said before, having a background in Biology, I have always tried to limit exposure of myself and my family, to chemicals of all kinds. Chemists and Engineers are pretty blase' about such exposure; Biologists not so much. I say you are foolish if you don't limit your exposures...for instance, I have lived in this house for forty plus years and have never had it sprayed. When pregnant, my wife didn't smoke, didn't drink, didn't paint as a hobby, or otherwise expose herself to anything unnecessary.

Bottom line, I think it's paid off over the years...and FWIW, my best friend of sixty plus years recently passed away from lung cancer...he smoked cigarettes for nearly sixty years; didn't think they would hurt him.

Oh, BTW, you should read the Court's opinion in the McDonald's hot coffee case...it might adjust some preconceived notions. It was interesting that McDonald's had been cited several times by the Health Department for keeping their coffee unreasonably hot; they thought it kept it fresh. You give near-boiling hot coffee, to an elderly lady, in a paper cup, at the drive in, and are surprised when it collapses and scalds her?

I was waiting for this one to come up. She received second degree burns, and initially only asked for help paying the hospital bills. When her request was denied she contacted a lawyer. The rest is history.

It's unfortunate that so many want to get rich from an error, making it difficult for somebody with a legitimate complaint to receive due process; but that's the litigatious world we live in.

My wife's first husband is a Ph.D biologist. I am a farm kid. My wife marvels that the one thing her ex and I agree on 100% is that we will not eat "fully cooked" processed meats without cooking them ourselves, and generally won't eat processed meats at all.

I firmly believe that some people are predisposed to be more prone to ailments. Whether it's an immune system issue or something else. If not, substances would harm everyone who comes in contact with them, not just some. Amount and frequency of exposure play a part to be cure. Has every coal miner that spent more than X years in the mines contracted Black Lung? Has every person who has ever worked with loose Asbestos been affected? Has everyone who ever smoked more than a pack a day been affected? Lead paint is a different issue because exposure by applying it was not a hazard. That comes from kids eating loose flakes or workers inhaling dust. Lead paint intact on trim can be safely painted over in some cases.

Saw a documentary about agenda 21. Apparently the Monsanto Corn will have males sterile in 3 generations.

The goal is apparently to get the earths population at 500 million. No fossil fuels, high speed rail, no rural living. Sounds kind of familiar, if you ask me. Oh, and no guns just for starters.

Besides limiting your exposure, the best thing you can have going for you is having good genes.

The monsanto/roundup sympathizers are sort of like those that disputed the E=mc2 theory...at least until the Trinity blast anyway...That showed em...!
