Is the Montana warranty transferable if I purchase a used Montana from and individual. The tractor is less than a year old. How long is the warranty on a Montana? One thing that I heard about Farm Trac (same as a Montana 2740 HP) that some of the metal parts are substandard and have a tendency to break. Is their any truth to that statement?

I think that it is reasonable to assume that some alloys cost more than others. Recycled metal costs less than pure alloy. Depending on the type of alloy it can be weak, strong, brittle, or flexible. Recycled metals are less predictable but if the types of alloys are reasonably known the properties can be reasonably predicted. Tractors made with higher contents of recycled metals may use thicker castings to compensate for the lower quality metal, however that doesn't mean it is substandard and many people prefer thick castings because they provide weight.

I've had my 5740C since Feb 05 and no metal broken anywhere. Don't know the answer to your warranty question.

No the source was not from a competing dealer. It was from a friend that owns a couple of tractors that he uses on his ranch. He told me that he had heard the Farm Trac's had some inferior metal parts. He said the axles on some of the Farm Trac's had snapped due to poor materials. The reason I asked the question was to see if there was any truth to that statement. I was looking at a used LG 2740 to buy and wanted to check out the quality of the machine.

I'm loving my Farmtrac 270DTC. The Farmtrac and Montana compacts offer the best dollar value in my opinion. I would've gone with the Montana 2740 (with rear valve standard, curved boom, larger tires) had there been a Montana dealer anywhere near me.
