Garry, we had a 22" surplus last year, so I know what you're going thru now.
Last year I had the best corn crop I've ever had! It loved all of that rain!
This year, I haven't even planted corn. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm not certain about our totals for the month of May, but we had 5.75" the last two days of the month! Probably around 9" for the month. As others have said, with rain like this you'd better be cutting grass any time it's dry enough.

We had the fourth driest April on record and one of the wettest Mays ever with flooding all about. I was very surprised to hear that those two factors have combined to put us well within an inch (lower) than the average precipitation year-to-date. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

We've gone from allmost drought conditions [for SE Louisiana] to a tad damp. Less than 2 inches for March. Only 3.6 for April. And while we had a couple of 10+ day stretches without rain in May, still managed to top 16 inches. When I went out one morning, the gauge was overflowing, so I really don't have a good reading for that day.
For the first 3 days of June, we've had a total of 2.7". We are ready to dry out now - - the ground is really saturated.

Saturated....good word to describe my area. We live on a high spot but when I was digging holes for setting treated deck posts I started seeing water in the bottom before I got down two feet. In this part of Michigan the soil turns to clay at about 14 inches down....I did the same task about a year ago in an area close to these holes and I had to break the clay up with a long prybar before the posthole digger I was using could begin to bite into the soil. This year I just used a sledge to hammer the handles down and the clay would wedge into the jaws as a plug. Took half as long to get down to the 42 inch depth I needed.

That word's a little inadequate for mine, but I mowed today anyway; right on through the puddles of standing water. And we're under a severe thunderstorm watch again this evening.

Down here in Arizona, we wouldn't mind if you would share some of that moisture. It is so dry here that the mosquitoes have evolved to breed in dust. We got about 6" of rain a couple of months ago--of course that is measured by the Arizona method--distance between drops.

I WAS in Phoenix 3 weeks ago, visiting my daughter, every day was over 100 deg. never saw a drop of rain, nor a drop of dew on the grass, all i saw was sun and hot /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BIRD, i did the same thing to day . HAD TO GET IT CUT, some of those area's have not been cut in 3 weeks, just sliped it in to 4 wd and raised the mower abit when i go to the standing water, and just kept mowing. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif got most of it done and if it don't rain tonight or tomorrow i will attact the downed trees that i have not been able to get at. one thing i found out today, is that the tractor don't make such a mess and will go though all kinds of stuff, is a little muddy and dirty tho /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
