Broke my own rule and borrowed my cousins case skid steer to unload a truck on a remote site my stuff was 80 miles away his was 5 mins away . Well she ate a valve I believe was using it for 10 mins let it run for 20 mins before getting in it talking to driver . AND then it started rapping and smoking
YIPPEE more expenses /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I am not taking it back broke . Anyone know if my diagnosis is correct ? It was running about 3/4 throttle it started rapping intermittantly and by the time I got it shut off it was constant

There are so many things that could cause a noise I wouldn't put much money on it being a valve, even though it could be. My little tractor did that once. Convinced me it was toasted. I found out it was caused by hydraulic oil leaking into the crankcase. The excessive oil level caused a nasty knocking noise combined with a lot of smoke. I changed the oil, fixed the leak and it ran good as new.

That is one really bad day /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I feel your pain! Many, many years ago when I first became a homeowner, I borrowed my neighbors splitting maul to split some wood. The very first swing, I overshot the log and took the head clear off /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Went down to the hardware store and promptly bought two brand new mauls. It was an inexpensive lesson to learn /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On your problem, a bit more complicated, Im not sure that I share your view on the valve. But in any event good luck with the outcome!

Do you know for an absolute fact it's the engine? Possibly a hydraulic pump knocking? Could be a hundred things, although it could very well be that valve you're talking about.

But I'm afraid you're going to be spending a few pesos anyway.

yes its definitely the engine they took the valve covers off all the valves are moving , took the pan off his hired guy is very mechanical he is leaning toward rod bearing or piston. but i agree on the bueno peso's /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I was thinkin rod bearing /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif They will have to see how bad the crank journal is, if its scored to any degree they will have to pull it and grind /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Gotta grind all the rod journals to do it right IMHO, and then get new bearings.

Could have been worse! You suck a valve and you got real problems then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You know in the world of shoulda coulda woulda, i shoulda just told the driver to drop it off at his site and I coulda picked it up later. I woulda been able to avoid this whole mess , and woulda saved a few hundred bucks /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I wish I had relatives like you. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Mine tend to return things, (If they even do that ), in whatever condition they were in when they last used them. And just because it didn't work when I went to use it, doesn't mean they broke it.

Also, thanks for the post on the piano move. I will definitely be using a piano mover in 3 weeks. Especially with the afformentioned family members helping me to move the rest of my stuff.
