I was cleaning my deck for the winter storage the other day and decided to try and shapen the blades on my 60" MMM, so I'd be ready for spring. The bolts holding the blades to the spindles are soooo tight! I couldn't move them at all with all my limited might. Does anyone know if the spindle bolts are standard or reverse thread? I think they are standard but not sure.

Jim,

According to the manual
"The blade bolts have RIGHT hand threads.
Turn them counterclockwise to loosen."

This might sound like a dumb question, but...

Once you have the deck off the tractor, how do you turn it over to get to the blades? The 42" deck on my little garden tractor was heavy enough, not to mention the 60" deck I have now.

Use your FEL with chains to pickup mower. Then block it up with 2X4's or jack stands.

Thanks, Ron! I gotta remember that the FEL is not just a power wheel barrrow.

Do you have hooks welded on your bucket for tasks such as this?

Mike,

You should be able to pull up one side and then scoot around to the other, while balancing the beast, and gently lie it down. Careful though and make sure you have good hand holds. I was hurrying the other day and I dropped it!....bang. I felt bad for the poor deck (didn't even scrape it) but was lucky it didn't land on my foot. It seems nearly every aspect of these machines has some element of danger. --Actually moving it with the FEL sounds like a better idea.

I use a small chain loop and a one ton chain hoist hanging in my shop A) to lift the front of my B2400 during removal of the MMM . I don't have FEL. B) use the same chain loop and hoist attached to the deck's front bracket to stand the mower deck on its rear wheels. I use a one foot section of 4x4 wood to block the blade. A 30mm socket on 18" bar will do the rest of blade removal.
