More Opinions Requested

Thanks guys for all the good information about cooling the turbo charger prior to shut down. You have convinced me that it is a worthwhile thing to do. Now I have another subject about which I am requesting opinions. I am a hobby/weekend user of my tractor, therefore I don't put a lot of hours on her. My manual says change the oil every 300 hours. That might be over a year for me. Do you think every 300 hours is OK or would you suggest more often? My inclination is to do it about every 100 hours.

Your kind of like me. So I will tell you what I do. I change it once a year. Oil sitting around will collect moisture which is not good. I change mine every fall whether I have enough hours on it or not.

It seems reasonable to assume the recommendation is based on frequent use. It would be helpful if they listed a separate interval based in occassional use...auto mfg give both eg every 3000mi or 3 months. Exactly what it would be for a diesel is unknown to me but I imagine environmental conditions (dusty etc) would also play into the equation as well.

Yep.. like the others.. I always add in " or at least once a year, whichever comes first" to all my tractors oil change recomendations.

My old fords may only get driven 20 hours a year each.. but they still get an oil change...

Here in Minnesota water condenses on the metal from the hot & cold cycles we go through, & the high humidity at times. Working the tractor good for several hours at a time will cook the water out, but at what cost, etc......

Think I should be changing oil every 6 months, but at least I do so every year. The filter sales are going on right now everywhere, time to stock up & get to work. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
