Cool project, maybe Doug would'nt procrastinate so much if you did'nt hog all the cool toys /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif tell him if he's really careful he can take down those shutters with the loader /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Things have slowed termporarily. The contraactor has the rental excavator for a week. They took it back Tuesday. It took longer because the excavator was so small, and he had commitments to other jobs. The big excavator is still broken. All combined, they started my pond, piled a big pile of dirt, and left. They'll be back to finish my pond in a few weeks when their backlog gets cleared up.

So, yesterday I started to move the big pile 1/3 yard at a time in my little TC18 bucket. I can move it; it will just take me about 12 times as long as the big loader. This morning, I discovered that I was moving around in the mud all day yesterday on a flat left front tire. It looked OK on the outside, but it chewed the heck out of the inside. The new tire won't be in until tomorrow, so I didn't get anything done today. Like Harve says, some days you get more done than others.

Tonight, we had one of the worst rain storms we've had so far this year, and that's saying a lot!!! I ran around on doug's 4 wheeler in the dark and saw quite a few puddles where we have to tweak the grading. There are only two ways I know to check the grades, do a topographical survey of every inch of the land, or use a giant, natural water level /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. Tomorrow I'll mark those areas.

Most of the time I love our flat terrain, but I sure am getting tired of it when it's wet. It sure is easier to drain when there is a slope...

In addition to the stuff I outlined to rlee, Doug has taken off for most of a week. My newish grandson is 8 months old, and his other Grandparents in North Carolina wanted to see him. Amy had band camp this week (she's a high school band director), so Doug took Aidan and flew to NC on Monday. He'll be back Saturday. He's OK as the Father of my grandchildren; not too many guys would tak an 8 month old baby and go away for a week in order to give Mom a little break. If he gets a little lazy over the plywood on the windows, who am I to criticize? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well, I'm still waiting for my new tire. Won't be in until after 2 PM. Hope they send the right one, or I'll be out of business until next week.

In the meantime, I mentioned that last night's storm was a rip-roarer. I didn't fare as badly as I thought. Here's where we are, right now. The first picture shows my pond where they stopped. The old pond is off to the right.

I've already started carving off this end; I've trimmed away about 5' at the base in about 4 hours.

This is where I'm putting it. It's about 75' away from the pile, so the travel time is not bad. I'll have to go farther as I move more. Some people do the hard part (farther away) first; I need the motivation of seeing some accomplishment relatively quick.
