</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Thanks for the responses about the paper. I found the CX6600 at our local Office Depot for $198 with a $50 rebate and brought it home along with a PCI USB2 card to upgrade my computer so I could use it.
I installed the card and went through the installation process with the printer, printed the "test page" and everything was fine. Then after I bebooted the system locks up just after the sign-on screen (XP SP2). I disconnected the printer and it still did the same thing. Removed the USB2 PCI card and reinstalled and it still locks up. Booting in Safe mode it doesn't lock up, but checking the status on the hardware screen within the control panel indicates a problem with the device that is preventing it from starting. I've tried PnP changes within the BIOS, disabling my USB1 ports on the mainboard through the BIOS, installing in different slots and it still freezes the system suggesting there's a conflict to me.
There was a reference within "troublshooting" suggesting that a device may be drawing too much power... I've just noticed that my power supply is only 200W. Don't know if that could be the problem or not. My system has a FIC PA2013 Mainboard, AMD K6III 450mhz CPU, 512M RAM, 40G HD, CD-RW, NVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2PRO video card, PCI 56K modem, and USB Direcway satellite modem, and some sort of Soundblaster audio card.
At any rate, if I can't figure it out pretty soon I'm planning on a new mainboard and AMD Athlon 64 3000 CPU with 1G RAM and a new power supply for this case.
It's aggravating to have a new toy and not be able to play with it!

You might have to download some different or up to date drivers for it.

Durbob,
I don't believe it'a got anything to do with the printer, but with my system VS the PCI USB2 card instead. I've updated to the latest BIOS for my mainboard and that didn't resolve anything either. I've about decided to just return the USB card and update the mobo, pcu, memory, and power supply. I've looked at "barebones" systems but it seems that I'll be about the same price buying individual components to put in my case and have higher quality stuff.

I've only printed a few photos to date. The ones I did print were on KODAK PREMIUM inkjet paper and the EPSON 4x6 sample pack, both with excellent results. Gerard

Did you install the drivers for the USB2 card? It has to have a set of drivers.

And, the 200W power supply is really too small for a "modern" computer, especially with all you have on it.

I went to a 450W last time because I run 4 HD's in a RAID5 Array, 2 CD writers, a USB2 card, and the other usual stuff. Power supplies are relatively inexpensive but be aware that when you get to the larger ones like my 450W they are physically larger and may not fit in an older case. However, I bought an Antec mid-tower case for less than $100.

Since this is the "Related Topics" section should we start a "How to build your own computer" thread?

Are You running it straight off the card?

Or do you have a powered USB hub?

Best I remember cards are only good up to 500ma current.

I always used a powered USB hub.( they use ac power)

A friend just bought a cx4600 when I saw it in action I ordered myself one today. geeks.com has them for $99 plus shipping. I got the last one in stock, but if you click on "alert me" they will send you an email when available. I tried Saturday, on Monday I got the in stock email. Also, go to epson site look for rebates. They are giving a $30 rebate on the cx4600 if purchase before March 30th. It must be postmarked by April 15th(I think).

Bill,
I installed the drivers and was able to print a test page OK. Then after rebooting the screen freezes, generally at the sign-on screen, but occasionally after it starts to load icons on the windows screen. I’ve been looking at prices to upgrade this box, but have located a “bare-bones” that I believe I can buy at about the same price as buying components. This outfit is where I'm looking. "ATHLON 64 939 SKT PCI EXPRESS BAREBONES"
Changing options to ANTEC SX600II MINI TOWER, ANTEC SMARTPOWER SL450 450W POWER SUPPLY, ALPS 1.44 FLOPPY DRIVE IVORY, and adding a GIGABYTE RX30S128D RADEON X300SE PCIE X the price comes to about $560. Their memory is kind of pricey; I think I can save about $50 buying that elsewhere and install myself. Everything here looks to be pretty decent components.

tomnky,
When I set it up I was running straight off the card.

Are You running XP? If so ,do you have service pack 2?
Does your computer stop at a sign on page when You boot up,even though You don't have multiple users?

I would try a powered hub, they aren't all that expensive.

And I would make sure I had the latest drivers.

There are different drivers for say XP than Me

Look on this page for drivers and troubleshooting

I'm running XP SP2 with all updates current.
I have multiple users and it stops at the sign-on page.
The problem seems to be with the USB2 PSI card, and therefore I can't use the printer. With nothing attached to any USB port and the card installed the system locks up during or soon after boot, whether the on-board USB1 ports are enabled in BIOS or disabled. With the card installed I can boot in "safe" mode, but can't get any information regarding conflicts because it indicates there is a problem with the device and it can't start, therefore it isn't using any resources.
I've tried installing in three different PCI slots to see if that would change anything.
If the PCI USB2 card isn't working within my system, I can't see how a powered hub is going to change anything other than my wallet.

My money is still what i said about a driver conflict. Go download the newest ones at the manufacturers website. I had the same problem with a sound card.
