Ford better get their poo poo together or another debacle like the unveiling of the 6.0 could push them over the brink. Stupid is as stupid does. I'll tell you one thing, it will be a cold day in hades before I trade my 03 with a 7.3.
The scary thing is trying to imagine the new truck "powering down" into a regenration cycle while you're trying to pass someone on a 2 lane road or while pulling a heavy trailer up a hill.
I do not know if I agree that this is a major issue. Ford has issued several tech notes on these trucks to this point--mostly for minor issues that are easily dealt with--and I actually think flames coming from the tailpipe is a nice touch. These engines and these trucks are going to be fine. The design is sound and the engineering top notch. I have a 2002 F250 7.3L which is highly modified and has given quite good service. I am currently testing a 6.4L 250 Lariat which I have now had two days. It is not as fast as my 7.3L but has good power, and rides great and is SOOO quiet. It is as refined a large pickup as I have ever driven. I doubt I will trade anytime soon, but I will consider later this year (mainly for tax reasons, not for reservations). I love my 7.3 and I would only trade to upgrade some "creature comforts". I will say the manufacturing tolerances, quality and feel of this new truck is far better than either mine or the 6.0L's I believe strongly that the bad publicity heaped on Ford was mostly just during the "6.0 years" but this new engine and truck is far and away the best initial heavy duty pickup ever from Ford.
Let's hope you're right. I don't have the patience to be a guinea pig for the 6.4L, so I bought a GMC 3500 4x4 DMAX/Allison and so far, I like it. 360/660 a 6 speed allison trans and a 11.5" mechanical locker and the longest warranty on any full size truck sold me.
