My girlfriend is stuck halfway between Flint and Lansing, she was enroute to her teaching stint at college for this afternoon. Some moron with a semi jackknifed his rig and has been blocking a large part of the eastbound freeway lanes...my feelings are that people who are careless enough during bad weather to obstruct traffic by getting off the road should be fined a minimum of $10,000 an hour for the delays they cause. When one considers all the other motorists who are inconvenienced and have to cancel appointments, etc. because one driver was careless or not paying attention, maybe if they enacted laws that REALLY cost bad drivers money people would slow down and pay more attention.

I have a favorite saying: "Accidents don't just happen, they are CAUSED"

You would never collect it from morons, they rarely have money. You might get it from a regular guy who encountered a situation he was not trained in or had never experienced before. You could easily bankrupt him, destroy his small business, his family, and his life. Lawyers would take their share and the people who were inconvenienced would get very little or nothing.

Where trucks are concerned, we would all pay for the fine in higher consumer costs anyways.

I say amputate their right legs at the knee and let them beg for a living at the mall. That would be true justice.

Face it. There are just some who should never be allowed behind the wheel.

Do you have house and car insurance? if so why?

It's always easy to blame the guy in the ditch or sideways across the road ... while the instigator cruises on oblivious to what others got into trying NOT to run their bum a__ over or to get out of his/her way. (good intentions gone bad?)

JD, we cancelled Lansing today for weather and the herds of texting student commuters (MSU, MCC) that often clog 69. At least we had a choice of going out in this s__. (btw: do you guys see notifications ('alerts') of PMs when visiting TBN via cel app?)

I don't know about the OP, but for me about 22,000 'days in MI' ... so far. (excluding military school and Army service.)

I did offer to drive this week ...

Gotta love the posts from people who have never made a mistake in their lives.

Have driven since 1966, never got off the road, never had an at-fault accident and my last moving violation (the only one I ever had) was in 1972. Drove commercial straight trucks up to 25 tons gross weight for a living for 31 years, inclusive of dozens of weeks of the worst winter weather the Upper Peninsula had to offer, and in all that time I never got off road, was never cited nor even stopped by the police, never had an accident of any type, and that's why I have no tolerance for careless drivers.

J D. below your posts you have a couple of lines of wisdom. Maybe you should take the time to read the fiist one. Just a thought. Jack.

You guys crack me up! Michigan can't be that bad.

Sure it is, people from Ohio even have a song about it. Course this excludes my relatives that live there..

I had a guy spin out right behind me a couple weeks ago, the morning after a big snowstorm, and the roads were still packed ice in places, and this guy was traveling fast down the left lane of the interstate which was half ice, and did a couple 360's across the road behind me. SUV stands for Stupidly Used Vehicle.

Hope that truck was not full of Kleenex. From the looks of what I'm reading here, there may be a shortage in Michigan.
